Mixed review based on two visits: the savoury scone I had was very nice with a delicious relish. dog friendly my waitress was very nice, friendly and helpful very prompt to take my order even on a busy day

Second visit: No positives. Just rudeness. they don’t publish their last service hours so today we arrived before close but it was after last service so we couldn’t be served. the last service hours on the Hestercombe website are incorrect someone not in uniform, maybe a manager, informed us not to rely on that website as the restaurant is nothing to do with Hestercombe. How would we know that? This person said there was a phone. Yes indeed. I had tried to call and to check their social media the FB ‘about’ page had no hours on at all. Their website says they close at 4.30pm but not that you have to be there by 4pm. I said we had tried to call but no one answered, to which there was a shrug like gesture and “We’ve been busy”.

This person’s attitude was entirely unapologetic, unbothered and frankly rude. We were there to mark our three late fathers on Fathers Day and my late mother’s birthday which fell on the same day. We had tried to get the information and followed the information we did find. I found this person’s attitude very unfortunate, and I frankly wouldn’t want to support somewhere that thinks that that is decent customer service. All that was needed was “we’re sorry, and we’ll look to getting clear...

Called in for a quick coffee and slice of cake before an appointment at the beautician across the courtyard.. I had half an hour. Rather an unfriendly greeting by male member of staff, presumably as I had walked in the door and not waited behind the sign which was outside saying please wait here to be seated. As it was a rather cold day and I could see the place was not busy I had gone on in. Waited about 7 mins he or the one other member of staff didn't come to take my order. Couple next to me were just sitting with closed menus so I asked if they had ordered the gent said no, I don't know what he's doing, we told him we knew what we wanted when he had sat them down over 10 mins ago. By this time I had about 15 mins left before my appointment and realised they were going to be before me, so I cut my losses and left, so can't comment of quality of their fare but can def tell you the service...

Gorgeous location, really clean and hygienic, well kept and maintained by staff all day, even through rush hour! Fab play area at the main entrance before you go in...Perfext for the kids to work up an appetite! The food was all fresh, home cooked and truly delicious. Reasonable prices, and a great selection on offer...No card payment problems, and really happy, friendly staff! An absolute pleasure to eat here...And worth popping in simply for the food even if you aren't planning on paying for entry to the gardens themselves...What a gem! (Edited to add - It's also dog friendly, and wheelchair/pushchair/mobility scooter friendly as well!)

We held our wedding at Hestercombe, hosted by the amazing Stables team. All I can say is our day was 100% perfect start to finish - Courtney has been fabulous throughout and no request was ever an issue. We felt like we really got to make the day our own and all our guests had nothing but praise for the service, food, and flow of the day. The wedding breakfast was above and beyond your typical bland wedding food, we are so impressed at the quality being produced on such a large scale. Small touches and behind the scenes seamlessness are what made the day. We would 100% recommend.
