The carpet and window sill in my room had seen more stains than a bottle of Mr Muscle. The toilet downstairs had no working light or lock on the door meaning a late night no. 2 was a real challenge. On the first night the fire alarm went off at 3a.m. and there were no staff on site. A chap eventually turned up and greeted everyone with a, "Morning All!" No role call was taken and when challenged on the issue, the reply was, "yeah everyone's here." He then went off and switched the alarm off, returned and said, "it's OK, the fire alarm is faulty." Sorry that is far from OK and quite a concern. No food was available at anytime during my stay. The decking outside was rotten, bordering on dangerous especially at night after hours due to no outside lighting. I kept expecting Basil Fawley to appear. The bathroom door was falling off it's hinges, the shower so small a ten year old would struggle to shower in it. The soap dish was at 45 degree's from horizontal. Only enough tea and coffee for 2 cups during the entire stay. On the plus side the beer was good and the girl behind the bar gave exceptional service. Only stay here if you want to experience Fawlty...
Read moreI am not one for complaining publicly, but I was really disappointed even more so after getting the bill. Before we went I checked the menu online which looked nice but when getting there there were only 3 options. For the kids I couldn’t change beans to pees which was however mentioned online. My daughter got maybe 5 pieces of tagliatelle on her plate. We ordered ice cream for them because it was mentioned online. Afterwards we found out we were charged kids menu prices for our kids and additionally 4 pounds extra each for 1 scoop of ice cream because it was Sunday and the menu did not apply then apparently. Also taking into account that it would have been 4 for 3 scoops as well. This however is not mentioned on the website as far as I can see. When I mentioned this I was replied with: you are free to leave. Fair enough, but don’t think it is wrong to mention as a customer how my experience was. I believe in clear communication which was not given and that is why I also mentioned this but I was dismissed. I loved the setting but left feeling...
Read moreTerrible night out, greeted by a brash over the top loud waitress that just would not shut up. The table for eight was pushed into a corner that we could not get into without us asking other people to move. Table with scaffolding legs was narrow two men could only sit on one side at a squeeze. Seats solid wood most unpleasant and we could not move them as we were wedged against the people behind. Menu one A 4 sheet on a clip board NOT GOOD. Not asked if we wanted more drinks so we didn't not asked if we wanted a sweet so we didn't and had to work hard for coffee. I understand a great deal has been spent on renovating this old pub. Do yourself a faver DRIVE PAST then the waitress can be put back in a field the menu can be used as toilet paper and the Star knocked down. Yes it stands on a nice plot for houses. Had some great nights out all over the south wast this was definitely not one. Given this place only one stars it had an exit so I could get...
