We stayed just one night at The Star on our route north. The pub is characterful, ivy covered frontage and popular with locals. It is frequently used during the Silverstone meetings.||||We stayed in Arkle, one of the three rooms named after racehorses. A cozy room, with tea and coffee, a decent TV and free wifi (a little temperamental) . The bed is large and very comfortable and the bathroom is a good size with a powerful shower.||All in all a pleasant place to stay a night and we had a meal in the evening in the bar.||||The food is very definitely pub grub, a lot of chips and not a massive choice. I was a little disappointed because there were far too many chips, but others may find this quite a good thing!||Friendly atmosphere and staff, we enjoyed our evening in the bar. There are a good selection of wines, local gins alongside beers.||||In the morning we had a continental breakfast, cereals, croissants, etc. The staff were absent and it's a help yourself affair, quite adequate and we knew in advance we were not having a cooked breakfast. If you prefer cooked you would need to ask if it is available, but I understand it is always a help yourself breakfast.||||I enjoyed my night at The Star, it's comfortable, clean, friendly and a convenient stop if you are...
Read moreMade very welcome on Christmas eve lunchtime, a steak very well presented and hot potatoes, a side salad that was lovely and crisp. The duck was excellent. Two of us also had the alternate steak this was very well presented and tasted good. The Risotto was amazing! Deserts were hot and the custard tasted like home made. The Hook Norton Brewery need to check this place out, their ales were excellent, correct temperature, and gas content proved cellar man is doing his job. Wines and spirits all good. The staff were polite, respectful and did their jobs very well. Food was ordered and brought out when we were ready. We all enjoyed the meal, the drinks and the company. This is a pub that deserves the five stars I have given it, it is a shame it is in the middle of no-where but when you find it is very worth it. Very well done to the chef and the staff, you made our family gathering well worth the traveling to you this year as although in the sticks it was an equal distance for us all to travel too, and to be made so welcome and with such good food and ales. Many thanks for your efforts in making us feel welcome, the good food and not being rushed made us feel very much "at home". Very well done to all the...
Read moreThis place is fantastic, today we used it as a lunch stop for around 20 bikers and they were just so organised.
They had arranged a menu in advanced when we booked, they had coned off a parking area on the street outside as there car park is gravel just for us and were prepped ready to move them when we arrived.
Then once we had pulled up they had given us the whole marquee, and had a process prepped to make it easy for us to all order drinks and pay our tabs separately. Taking our first name an initial for the drinks orders and paring it with the food already selected.
Drinks and food arrived swiftly and they had a printed copy of what everyone had ordered to avoid the " I've forgotten what I choose" that inevitably occurs on these occasions.
Then once we were done we could all jus lt take turns going through to the bar to pay our tabs. The food was great and reasonably priced. But it's the staff that really made this place, being super friendly a laugh and doing a superb job of being organised and handling a rabble of bikers.
Definitely will be back again as it looks like a charming character full pub in a...
