Was on a long drive from Bath to Birmingham and found this place not far off our route. Reviews were good, and the menu looked good so called and they had a table available for us.
I wanted to have a burger, but didn't know if they did the main menu on Sundays (I did email them a week before to ask, but received no response) Luckily, when we got there about 6pm on Sunday and were given menus they were the standard menu (no sign of a Sunday menu with roasts, but that was good for us)
I got the "Beef and Brisket Burger" which was really good. The beef was lovely, clearly homemade and had a good texture and flavour. Cooked perfectly and was juicy and soft. The brisket on top was really good. Not an issue, but I think they had forgotten to 'pull' it so there was lots of big chunks of brisket on top of the burger hiding under the cheese. I took these out to eat separately due to their size but the meat was amazingly soft and tasty and perfectly cooked. The bacon in the burger was also perfectly cooked (crispy) and there was loads of lovely melted cheese as well. The bun it was served in was also really soft and fresh tasting.
My only issue with the burger was that it had pickles in it, which wasn't mentioned on the menu otherwise I would have asked to not have them (as they make everything taste strange!) And although the menu said the burger came with chilli jam, there was some sort of spicy relish on the bottom of the burger. This may have been the chilli jam but personally I didn't like it and had to scrape it off. It just tasted like spicy relish to me (which I would normally ask to remove if mentioned on the menu) and unlike any chilli jam I've had previously. But overall the burger was very impressive and definitely one of the best burgers I've had recently.
My wife had the fish and chips. It was a very big portion and the fish tasted good with really crispy batter. (Although the fish was very greasy)
The service from all the staff was really friendly and professional, and I would definitely recommend the burger here. If we were in the area I would happily...
Read moreWe love this pub but we were a little disappointed last night. It was a rearranged visit from before Christmas that was was cancelled because of a lack of LPG. We rescheduled our visit with friends who had booked the Swan on our recommendation. On ordering our drinks it seemed like nearly 20 minutes before they arrived! They were sat on the bar but nobody wanted to bring them over!! It would have been a nice gesture due to late cancellation of visit before Christmas for the owner to have brought them over and said sorry for the late cancellation but thanks for rearranging your visit. It would have been easy to just get our money back.Food was good but getting drinks once the meal was eaten not so easy. It was probably about 10.30 when we called the waitress over and she immediately said do you want the bill!! No we were out with friends for the evening and wanted another drink. She obliged. It seemed that you wanted us to go and was the same situation as a table of 8. They went to the bar to get some service and again were asked if they wanted the bill. They also wanted drinks..In the end the bill was delivered without us even asking., There were people at the bar drinking so didn’t understand the rush.We will come back if allowed but...
Read moreA few weeks ago we decided to leave the M5 and look for a village pub for a evening meal, so I had a quick look on Google Earth and found The Swan at Tytherington. On arrival we drove around the back to the car park, first view of the pub from the car park was a bit drab and in need of a bit of TLC but undeterred we went in. Glad we did, It has lovely large rooms and were greeted with a warm welcome, we got a drink and menu and chatting to an off duty member of staff, I was informed the pub have recently been taken over and they had just started tidying up and sorting it out renewing a few things, so I thing the first view from the car park will improve very soon for new customers. Well we had a meal from the main menu and there was a fair choice ranging from fish to steaks and everything in-between. We both enjoined the meal and a welcome drink before leaving. We could also see as well as the large car park a large garden area with children’s play area, and outside sitting area’s front and back. Glad we stopped and wish them luck with the venture, I’m sure we will...
