Just been into this pub, after standing at the door waiting to be seated (Covid regulations have required this in most pubs I have visited since April) A waitress came up to us and we asked if they were serving food, to which she replied with “I don’t know I’ll ask”

So after being seated in the outdoor areas we waited a further 15 minutes for food menus (more of a food list) and to put our drink order in.

A further 10 minutes passed and we still hadn’t received our drinks that we had ordered, so we decided to tell the waitress to cancel our drink order to which she replied “okay”, so we started to leave

As we left the pub the blonde female manager (I presume) very aggressively shouted “Excuse me, your drinks are here” after we told her we were leaving because we waited 25 minutes for drinks she quickly snapped back with “no you didn’t, 10 minutes tops”

So at this stage I thought the situation needed explaining and diffusing as the manager was very confrontational, so I told the manager that I also work in the industry so I understand if you’re busy (7 total tables including us were in) But that we were not waiting for 10 minutes, closer to 30. Again, very aggressively the manager said “well I didn’t know yous were there!!” (Contradicting what she previously told us, that she did know we were there and waiting for “10 minutes tops”) She then proceeded to storm out of the room with her hands up.

This same manager was clearing tables next to us (without any disinfectant, against covid measures) earlier, so she would’ve known that we were there. Regardless, it is the managers job to know who is in your venue and when they arrived. Especially in these new capacity focused covid times.

Also, I found it unusual that despite the current pandemic that there was no sign of either cleaning or more importantly track and trace, which is a legal requirement. I’ll definitely pass this on to the relevant authorities

As I said to your manager, I totally understand being busy and stressed, but the way she spoke to me and my parents was totally out of order, especially when she wasn’t telling the truth. As soon as she realised we were telling the truth she quickly turned around and left the room as quickly as she could, a total 180 from her previous aggressive and demanding attitude.

I think your manager needs some sort of training, and until then me or anyone I know will not be visiting...

With my job I often drive past this pub and thought it would be a nice place to try with my other half and decided to also take my mam out to treat her. I ordered a mushroom chicken. It was really nice, my other half ordered a skewered chicken which she really enjoyed. And lastly my mam had ordered herself a steak. Which wasn’t to her liking due to the fact they had seasoned it with pepper, which we had no prior knowledge to them using this method and I don’t believe it mentioned the fact that the steak was seasoned anywhere on the menu. When they came around to check if we were enjoying our meals. My mam had asked if they had used pepper on the steak. To which the guy had said yes. So she then informed him she wouldn’t be able to eat it due to that. Instead of offering to possibly prepare another steak without seasoning it with pepper he just wondered off. So it came to the point of us paying. With the majority of the steak being wasted. We did try and see if they would offer a lower price to it due to the fact it was seasoned with pepper without us knowing about it. This is where my real issue started. As his lack of customer service was appalling. He tried to argue the fact that everywhere seasons steak with salt and pepper, to which my mam obviously told him that wasn’t the case as she has been to other places and never tasted any pepper. But he wasn’t having any of it and clearly knew better. He has clearly been to the exact same restaurants as my mam and tried all their steaks. Who are we to question his logic on the matter? All I can say is you should atleast add it to the menu that the steak is seasoned with salt and pepper so that people that possibly don’t like either could then inform you about not wanting a certain seasoning on the steak thus avoiding them paying for a meal they didn’t enjoy/eat. Or atleast offer to redo the steak. As many other restaurants would. Other then the poor customer service it was a quiet nice...

Second time of visiting, this time we used the restaurant hoping for better service than the last time we were in the bar. There to celebrate our 46 th wedding anniversary with gift vouchers from our daughter. Seated in a almost empty room next to another larger table albeit with only a few people. Ordered food and drinks and a note on the menu did say as each dish is cooked fresh they would be a wait, not a problem. Then it became obvious as people arrived the large table was for a 90 th birthday. While not exceedingly noisy simply having that many people made conversation difficult, we did consider moving then the food arrived. Cannot fault that, vegetables and meat cooked to perfection. Slight criticism is gravy was added without being asked, we did expect it to come in a separate bowl ,my wife preferred no gravy. Finished the main course and asked for dessert menu. After reading that we sat back and waited. Several new arrivals were dealt with and then the food for the birthday party started to be served. Fair enough so we waited again, but after they were served some other new arrivals orders were taken. We waited some more then simply gave up,paid the bill and left. We won't be returning, the food simply does not make up for the service, last time we used the bar and it took two hours to get through a meal for four people. A real shame as the venue has so ...

Without a doubt the best pub in Northumberland in my humble opinion. We have a holiday home in Rothbury and we drive here to Thropton, regularly for the spectacular Sunday carvery. Its possible to avoid the crowds of Rothbury and eat well year-round here, and not just on a Sunday.. Your dog is also welcome, which for us, is essential. So. Its a very short drive between Rothbury and Thropton, but when the sun shines, like today, there is no better day out than to walk here from Rothbury. A gentle stroll along the beautiful river Coquet. Your dog will thank you for the river fun...just mind the sheep! The pub beer garden has dramatic views of the coquetdale valley and the service, staff, food and beer are always first class. The dog is welcome in the bar meals area and in the beer garden but not the restaurant as is proper. The owners are very friendly and even went out of their way to show me, on-line the place where they bought their recent garden furniture when I enquired where they found it. We have been today 4 June 2022 and had a chicken curry and vegetarian Wellington and 4 beers each (walking of course. All was first class as usual and I would recommend the three wheat heads without hesitation. Well done to all the team, you do a great job and deserve to be applauded for it 👏 👍 😀 👌

What is it with this walking lark? 2 new places in a week!!!!!! Last week, it was an epic trip to Malham Cove in North Yorkshire this week it's Thropton (a little village in Northumberland). I am certainly not complaining it's just a bit weird, especially considering that I have been a member of the Tyneside Ramblers since 1994. You would think that I would have been everywhere on their circuit but seemingly not. Which can only be a good thing. Anyway, the Three Wheat Heads Inn not very often do I give somewhere 5 stars in fact very rarely do I give somewhere 5 stars.✨️✨️✨️ On this occasion, though the good folk at the Three Wheat Heads Inn have most certainly deserved them, they were brilliant from the friendly greeting to the service to the Golden Plover and the Mad Goose ales. 🍺 Of course, not forgetting the absolutely amazing, incredible Roast Beef dinner with the Honeycomb cheesecake that was just fantastic, and just to top the day off sitting with the people I had been walking with in the sunshine, the beer garden, and an amazing view. Thank you to all at the Three Wheat Heads Inn, a perfect end to a special day.

Visited with 2 sons, daughter in law, grandson. The waitress was charming, sociable, helpful, and humour,a delightful young lady. The Barman served drinks, gracious, courteous, and humour. The food was served well, presented with great manners. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was professional, family place. As complete strangers, they made us welcome 🙏. It would be worth the drive for the beautiful countryside, and beautiful people 😀 😊 Thank you both personally 😊
