I’m sorry to say we had such a poor experience at the Watermill last night. We tried the pub for dinner but were very disappointed.
When we arrived the pub was relatively quiet, we went across to the empty bar to explain we had a reservation and must have been stood there 2 minutes or so before any of the 3 girls behind the bar, all stood with their back to us chatting, acknowledged us. Even then we weren’t seen too, one girl said she would be with us shortly and walked away and the other two girls went outside and stood by the back door and continued chatting. One of them came back in after around a minute and asked if she could help, before showing us to our table.
We were given menus and a further 10 minutes passed without anyone coming to our table to ask if we wanted any drinks. At this point again the pub was still quiet. My sister went to the bar and asked if someone could take our orders, the girls were again stood behind an empty bar chatting, but they did then come and take our orders when we asked them too.
The starters came (2 out of 5 of us ordered) and in fairness they were both nice.
Our food then arrived - 3 out of 5 meals came together and then the last 2 came around 5 minutes afterwards. Two of the meals were cold, my toddler had sausage and mash and the sausages were very burnt. I ordered a prawn linguine from the specials board and something used in the sauce was definitely off. It was completely sour and left the most awful taste in your mouth. I am 7.5 months pregnant so after a few mouthfuls and realising how off it was, I didn’t risk eating anything further.
By this point the pub was very busy and it appeared only one waitress was attending to everybody. Nobody came to check if our food was ok or ask if we had any problems, or offer us any further drinks.
We got up and left, my father went to the bar to speak to the staff and was asked if everything was ok. He explained it wasn’t and told the bartender what had happened. She apologised and then presented a bill of £137, which we paid.
I woke up at 11pm last night vomiting at 7.5 months pregnant. No idea what on earth has gone wrong last night or whether this is a usual occurrence but the whole...
Read moreWARNING IF YOU ARE GLUTEN FREE! So me and my partner visited Cornwall for the week and thought it would be nice to have a pub dinner on Friday. I am Gluten Free and always check the menu before I attend places to ensure there is something on the menu I can eat. I am very much aware that eating out is a risk for someone with my condition, as places cannot guarantee cross contamination won’t happen, but out of personal choice I agree to take the risk. We arrive around 5pm Friday and get seated. I look at the menu and decided I will order Bangers and Mash. The waiter takes our order and checks with the kitchen to make sure it’s gluten free (although the menu states they can make this gluten free). The waiter comes back and states they cannot guarantee it would be gluten free, so I order a burger instead. What can go wrong? It will either come with a gluten free bun or no bun at all. They say I can order this (which is also good considering the menu says gluten free alternative for this menu item too). Around 30 minutes later the waiter comes out and asks “with your burger, the bun is gluten free, but the burger itself is not, do you need that to be gluten free too?” I honestly was so shocked this was even a question that came out of their mouth. By this point I was very unhappy and responded saying that we will not bother with food and will just pay for the drinks. I stated it is ridiculous the menu says it caters for gluten free, yet it clearly does not, of which the waiter agreed it is misleading. How can I eat a place that I don’t have the confidence in? I go to the bar for the waitress to say that the food has started to be cooked and we cannot leave until she checks with management as we may need to pay for the food. I responded that we will only be paying for the drinks as the pub does not actually do gluten free options, despite this in reality not being the case. Eventually we paid for the drinks and left. It was the first time since I was a child where I went to a place that was so out of touch of gluten free foods. It’s okay if you cannot provide gluten free food, just don’t pretend you can when you don’t actually have the...
Read moreWell what can I say,we are down for a long weekend for my wife’s birthday. We went to the watermill to celebrate her birthday,we arrived at the watermill with not booking a table but it was ok because the lady behind the bar said it was quite quiet and we could sit anywhere we liked,so we did,it then all started from there,we were waiting sometime to be served,we had to make a drink order along side ordering our food. We both ordered ribeye steaks,my wife having hers cooked medium and myself ordering mine well done and yes I like mine cooked 😬. When they arrived we were presented with sirloin steaks,I mentioned to the waitress that we had ordered ribeye steaks and this is not what we have in front of us,she went back to the kitchen to ask and come back with a reply from the chef that they are ribeye(I do know the difference between ribeye and sirloin as I bet most people do),so I said ok no problem no point ruining our evening,I then cut into my steak and oh my days it was more like rare-medium 🤮,so upto the bar I went, telling the lady behind the bar my steak is under cooked, the waitress came to the table asking what would I like to do,my reply was I’d like another cooked correctly,we also said could they recook my wife’s meal as she didn’t want to sit there eating alone while I was waiting for mine to be recooked, which she did,oh and what a surprise when both meals came back out they were both ribeye’s and both cooked as we had asked for,why couldn’t they have just done that in the...
