We stayed in a double room for 3 nights. Meant to stay for 4 (paid for 4)...had to leave as the mattress was so uncomfortable that it caused great muscle pains resulting in having to take strong painkillers. Whilst the INN has great potential it is sadly outdated; sticky and gives you with hibby jibby vibes. Dinning chairs and tables are old; wobbly and sticky. Breakfast is absolutely dire...forget about a pastry or even a decent piece of fruit...same old fruit for 3 days in a row not even taken out of the plastic container (which lead you to wonder if the fruit has been washed)..Pears so hard; impossible to cut through them weak coffee and cold if you are on the last breakfast slot. First day couldn't find one clean cereal bowl...all had residue of yogurt despite having been in a dishwasher. Full English is greasy and made of very basic ingredients .... The bedroom is tired with stained carpet. Wall are so thin that you can hear next door having a bath. Huge canvas above the bed that hide a black stain (mold?) fell on us in the middle of the night. No facilities for your towel to dry. A "wardrobe/cabinet" so smelly that you wouldn't want to put your clothes in there. Nowhere in the room to put your bags. Curtains so light that the first morning light comes in. Not a pleasant experience sadly. Marketing photos and reviews making it sound far much better than it really is. Accessible via one way long winded tiny pathway with edges scratching your car one way or the other. Some lovely people work in there and work hard to keep it clean but that's about the only positive thing. Absolutely no...
Read moreFirst time in the Weary Friar and we will probably visit again whilst we stay in the village of Pillaton or sometime soon again as we only live across the River Tamar in Plymouth. A very friendly welcome greeted us on our arrival, this pub is realy quirky and over 400 years old too. We decided in the Sunday roast and a cappuccino whilst we waited. Unfortunately there must have been a problem with the coffee machine as the coffee was so weak and only barely warm, this wasn't a problem as the staff were happy to exchange our coffee, to a americano with hot milk, although this was an improvement on the first cup, it still didn't taste all that special. I went for the roast beef and Gerald had the roast gammon, which came with, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding, carrots, broccoli and roasted beetroot which was a change I must say! The meal was all hot and plenty of meet on our plates, but too me, it just wasn't as tasty as I would have expected. Would I go back again, most definitely, just to try some other meals off the menu and to have a proper look around in...
Read moreJust spent a week here and we loved it!
Food was high quality (especially the steak and stilton pie). The staff, both evening and morning staff, are very friendly and clearly work very hard. We thought our bill at the end was quite reasonable and we've already discussed amongst ourselves that we'd come back here.
If I had some feedback, it would be that for such a lovely warm atmosphere in a beautiful old pub, your seating isn't comfortable. It's okay if you just want to eat but after eating I couldn't relax in your wooden chairs. Your restaurant area is very large - why not clear the wooden chairs out from the bar area and put some comfy seats in there. It would make enjoying a drink a much more comfortable experience.
Even so, well done everyone at The Weary Fryer. Fully...
