We arrived there, my first visit with friends. It was a saturday lunch time which is very busy for anybody. We were greeted by a nice waiter who asked to wait politely whilst taking some food out. Shortly after they took us to a nice table for 3 and brought us some menus. They took our order quite promptly and took payment at the table which was a bit odd but its possible that they would normally take orders at the bar and pay but it is covid 19 times. Toilets were ok. Door was a bit wonky in the ladies but apart from that, hygenic enough for a cafe. I had a bacon, brie and cranberry panini. I thought it was just a panini but avtually came with a leafy straw salad and crisps which was a pleasant surprise. Best panini i had had may i had. Crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, loads of cheese and bacon not chewy or so crispy that it gets stuck in your teeth, just right. Had a lovely white americano as well as pictured. There were dishes to be taken from the tables which is why i've given 4 stars. I would definately go there again sometime. Prices reasonable.

I visited for lunch. First visit since the new ownership. First thing I noticed was the staff. Gone are the warm and friendly faces who used to be here - replaced with waiting staff who seem deeply unhappy. Then the lunch time menu..... See the photo.... This might be a good menu for a food van, but it is a bit disappointing for a restaurant. By 12:30, they had already run out of potatoes. And cream teas. In the end, i chose a rather exotic tuna sandwich, though also considered leaving and going to a different restaurant. The food was okay. Supermarket bread (rather than bakery), but it was the better quality of industrially produced bread. And there was no need to worry about loads of fancy ingredients - the tuna mayonnaise sandwich had tuna. And mayonnaise. And a little bit of butter. Overall..... I may pop back again in a year to see whether it has improved.... But for now, we are about to head elsewhere for dessert.

Extremely slow, almost not bothered service. We had to call the waitress over to take our order, even though lunch time service had ended and most of the tables were empty. Unfortunately there’s a really big issue with wasps on the site, you’ll be hassled and swarmed on by 5-10 wasps at your table. Management had tried to put bottles down to catch them but this wasn’t working. We asked to sit inside to finish our cream tea due to wasps but staff were more interested in telling us the table was reserved later on, than accommodating a clear issue with pest control.

Beautiful setting, but miserable staff at the meeting place (can't enter without being seated first, due to Covid restrictions) fairly early so no idea why so despondent when getting customers. Waitress again was pretty reluctant to show any kind of service with a smile. I'd put this down to the fact that despite being outside and socially distanced the staff have to wear masks, whilst everyone around them were mask free, I guess day after day of this would pretty much make most people fed up. Unfortunately the quality of the coffee we had can't be excused, 2 sizes available regular and large, we chose regular which should be called small and tasteless, I'd be surprised if the brew saw any coffee beans, the cup was 3/4 frothy milk and the rest unknown. I also had a millionaire shortbread that just crumbled to pieces upon picking up and the caramel just ran away, it was either gluten-free or vegan so it had no structure to it. Why cater for minority tastes only and not for both? The other thing I noticed was the Farmer Tom's Ice Cream hut, it was shut despite being after 12 when it wasn't supposed to be open, however at £3.20 for a single scoop of "homemade" Vanilla, I would have passed. The Weir is like most places in Cornwall now, selling cheap products at the highest price possible, as they seem happy to take the money from tourists and not worthy if they don't come back as there are plenty more where they came from. Unfortunately I don't see this lasting forever, locals won't support this kind of attitude, and tourists will soon cotton on that Cornwall does not offer good value for money unless you look hard and steer clear of the masses. Disappointed, The Weir used to offer high quality food at good...

First time visiting, and left really quite despondent about the experience. A beautiful setting, tastefully decorated and presented. Customer service was OK, polite and welcoming. Placed order and paid then realised incorrect amount of breakfasts placed meaning another order needed. Not too much of an issue and assured all food would arrive together. Ordered hot drinks - very little difference in a Flat White, Latte or Cappuccino it seems as all identical in presentation. First three breakfasts arrived, assured 3 remaining breakfast would follow - this was almost 15 minutes later, meaning either cold food for those already served or not all eat together. Breakfasts were nothing more than average. Questionable 'Marhamchurch Sausage' as claimed as was similar to a basic 'Catering Sausage' in both flavour and style. Cold precooked bacon warmed through, like warm beans and a broken egg, cleverly hidden under the second egg with egg yolk coating the overcooked tomato. 15 minutes later we were appriached by the waiting team member with an egg that was missed off the vegetarian breakfast when it was served... For an order of close to £90 for a family breakfast get-together prior to two members heading off on travelling for several months we were really quite disappointed.

Would we return? Honestly not sure we would or highly recommend either. A great destination as a midway point if out for a walk along the Canal path as the setting is truly stunning, just bitterly disappointed by the lack lustre food and below average service. Could do better with some Customer Service training and general...

We've been coming to the Weir for quite a few years but have to say this time we were disappointed. Not so much in the food (we just had breakfast on the first day, didn't manage to actually get anything after that) but their new system of table service is pretty chaotic. You can no longer order at the till (apparently the kitchen was getting overwhelmed) so you have to wait to be seated and someone serves you. So even if you just want a coffee you end up in the 'system' which was taking around 15-20 minutes for hot drinks to come out. The second time we visited, there was no space inside so were given menus to take outside and told someone would be over to take our order (we did ask if we could just order at the till, but told no, table service only). We waited around 15 minutes but no one ever came, the people next to us had been there longer, so gave up and walked back to Bude, hungry and thirsty. Before leaving I did pop inside to say to the staff member that it was a shame that no one had even come out to us, she said they were just so short staffed, she had no one to send. I don't blame the staff on the floor, they worked really hard but the management seem to have introduced a system they can't actually make work in practice. For people wanting just a hot drink or cake, it seems crazy to have to wait so long, they must be losing a lot of business. Also, not going up to the counter, you don't see the cakes and get tempted by something you wouldn't have otherwise ordered - so again, lost business for the Weir! Really hope they rethink what...
