Bang average, I thought I came across a little hidden gem seeing this online.
It is trying to be better than it is and is let down by the following:
Starters came worryingly quickly
Out of multiple items across main and desert menu
Expensive lunch menu, around £13 mark after supplements for a sandwich and chips, when main menu can get proper meals for around same cost.
The style and look of the menu is very nice, but makes it look fancier than the place actually is.
Random assortment of interior decor, too much and cluttered the place.
Steak and ale pie was tiny, very round but not very deep at all. Pastry was very thick and looked rather undercooked on the inside, the small amount of filling didn't taste of much.
Onion rings and Calamari were greasy, the halloumi for starter and inside Chicken burger was very overcooked and rubbery.
Baby changing area had a big potted plant next to the changing table with the foliage encroaching the table so it was difficult to change our baby on it.
Service very strange, too quick when asking how food was as we had barely taken our first bites, then when waiting to ask for the bill it took a very long time. Went looking for a staff member but couldn't find any in restaurant or bar areas twice and we seemed to be the only diners in the seated restaurant area.
Very disappointed as I saw lots of good reviews, and thought I'd found a gem of a gastro pub for lunch and dinners. However not and I feel I won't be returning.
Overall, the food I feel Is bang average and the same quality of somewhere like the harvester, which I don't like either.
I do feel it is quite expensive for what it is aswell which makes the whole experience worse. Only reason it's not a 2 star review is that the female waitress was very friendly and helpful and interacted wonderfully with our baby.
It wasn't at all the experience I...
Read moreBletchley Park may be Britain's best kept secret, and The Wheatsheaf Pub and Grill must be the second. Having lived locally all my life, I had never been into this establishment till a a week ago. Now I have been twice in seven days. Unlike me, don't just drive past, but call in and experience the great food, drink, service and atmosphere. Good food selection and covering a good vegetarian and vegan options. Situated on the southern flank of Milton Keynes and very close to Woburn Sands, Woburn and Woburn Golf Coarse its ideal for walking groups wishing to journey along the famous Green Sands Ridge walk and woodland. The venue is positioned on the main through road in the small hamlet of Bow Brickhill and within 300 yards from the Bletchley to Bedford rail link from its single platform station. I definitely will be calling in for more family meet ups from now and in the future. As an added bonus. Pick up the free Emerald Loyalty Card for special offers and discounts.(T&C's apply). Another mention. Off road parking to the rear of the building. A big thank you to Emma and her team for an excellent evening last night. ...
Read more1st time visit since new owner's have taken over, went on Pie Tuesday night and had a good meal. The Pub has been decorated to a very nice standard, and comes across as a very welcoming venue. The staff were brilliant and made you feel welcome, our waitress was excellent and very attentive, came for the drinks order within minutes of being seated. The food was good but for me personally I would like to have seen more vegetables on the plate, I did feel they were a bit meagre as portion sizes go. The pies themselves were very tasty and clearly hand made, I had pork, sage and apple, the wife had chicken and leek. We did think that both of the pies were slightly undercooked on the bases, this did result in a somewhat soggy bottom which was a shame. This to be fair did not detract from the flavour just failed a bit on the presentation. Pie Tuesday is a great menu offering around 4 or 5 pies on top of the normal menu, very well priced and comes with a choice of a soft drink, glass of house red or white, or a pint of lager. We will definitely be returning, and would...
