We were very excited to try the roasts here after it opened under new management so booked for my Mum's Birthday and when it came out on the boards it looked amazing, however unfortunately that wasn't the case at all. All of the meat was SO hard to cut, we asked for steak knives, they didn't have any so they brought us a little sharp knife and said it was the only one they had, so we shared this around the table to cut up our meat, even with the sharp knife my mum's beef was not able to be cut, I went and asked the staff if they could bring her some replacement beef as it wasn't edible, they came and explained they only had some well done beef left, my mum said this would be fine, after about 10 minutes... They brought some beef (completely different to what everyone had before, very thin and well cooked) compared to the thicker rarer slices we had, this was able to be cut so could be eaten, although it was unfortunately then quite dry. The mashed suede, the potatoes and the parsnips were nice. The Yorkshire's came out in linen bags before the food, served cold, which we thought was very odd. All of the veg took a lot of cutting, such as the asparagus, tender stem broccoli (or not so tender) etc. The cauliflower in the cauli cheese was mostly cauliflower stalks. Unfortunately although it looked amazing, this was the most disappointing roast we have had. Not sure if it's because we booked at 3.30 so late in the day? On the positive along with the bits mentioned above that were nice, we had a lovely gin and tonic, just such a shame about the main event, can't recommend visiting here for any more than a drink.

The Wheel inns Sunday roast has gone straight to the top of my top 10 roasts in Cornwall. Upon arrival the staff were super friendly and welcoming, we were sat very quickly. The atmosphere was lovely, it's a small pub and all the tables were full but you do not feel squashed in. The food was delicious. The lamb was beautifully cooked and had so much flavor, the potatoes were crispy and fluffy. The cauliflower cheese was perfect and veg was colourful, fresh and tasty. The Yorkshire !!! Oh my... the mouthwatering suprise inside was amazing. THEY GIVE YOU EXTRA GRAVY!!! The roast is extremely filling but it did not stop me from sharing a desert & taking one home for later! ( Which did not last long one I had tried it). The nods and sounds from other table as they tucked in just shows how much people were enjoying their food. Highly recommend and I can not wait for back and try there normal menu.

Called here again as we'd previously stopped for drinks and saw the BBQ setup which looked amazing. Plus the staff were super friendly. Was expecting all meats (fine by me!) however; pleasantly surprised to find a good fish selection after having sought good seafood in Cornwall all week. Went for the fish platter (pictured) it was incredible, smoked oysters, mussels, sardines, john dory, plaice with house pickles and slaw. Cocktails were also really good. If you're near Truro - definitely recommend a stop here 👍 (we'll be back if we are, I need to try the meat platter next!).

Wheely Bad Service - a huge disservice to such a historic building and almost idyllic setting.

First of all I would not recommend this place in the slightest to anyone with kids under about 15. If we hadn't been with friends we would have left. The staff are either completely unable, or totally unwilling to accommodate for children. They have no high chairs, changing facilities or kids menus and will not vary their menu to accommodate a child's needs.

For adults the food is overpriced and badly executed mutton dressing as lamb. The menu is limited with very restricted options for vegetarian and vegans (I'm not one but wanted to point it out) and you might want to know that the portions are not the best size wise, seafood options were almost absent, the specials board was blank (on prime time saturday night). Everything I ate was lagged in salt and dripping in oil so obviously the chef/s are overcompensating for something. No condiments were offered, unsure if they were even available.

Someone in our group raised some feedback about the service and menu and was greeted with condescension and insults and effectively the business told its customers that they were the problem, "all our locals love the food" we were told, whilst standing in an empty pub at 20:00 hours on a Saturday. I saw no evidence of any locals, We arrived at 18:00 and think I saw them do two tables the whole night, they might be able to front like posh hipsters but the empty establishment speaks truth to that.

In the end I left wishing I hadn't made an effort to clean up...

We went to a party here last night. I called before to ask about Gluten Free options and was told that there would be plenty available for me. I have coeliac disease so it is particularly stressful eating out and risking contamination. So I was reassured but a little nervous anyway. When I arrived I spoke again to the owners/managers who were exceptionally reassuring saying that almost everything was GF including the fish and chips and yorkshires! At the party they served tapas and AGAIN reassured me all bar one thing was GF. It was very exciting to eat without fear! The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and kind. The setting was absolutely beautiful - we were on tables set up by the river, the tide was up, the sun was warm and we had a blissful evening. We are all excited to return to this lovely pub. I have 2 coeliac daughters so it’s particularly important for us to have the reassurance of care taken with cross contamination. No repercussions on the tummy front which is always the final test. I DEFINITELY recommend The Wheel and can’t wait...
