The White Horse Inn - Traditional Pub — Restaurant in England

A completely surprising dining experience! I was visiting the area from Germany for a few days and was recommended to visit the White Horse. I was actually expecting a completely normal pub, so I was all the more surprised! What a great place! The White Horse has a super cozy and well-stocked bar, a wonderfully rustic dining room, and a beautiful garden that belongs to the restaurant area. A fantastic dining experience! The dishes served in each course look very tidy and clearly structured. There are few components and side dishes, but each element has its own complex flavors – new, fresh, and unfamiliar. You immediately wonder how it's done, but you can't figure it out. That's the hallmark of a great chef. When you come here for the first time, you can't help but smile after the first few bites. It looks so cheekily simple on the plate, yet it's so skillfully and well-executed. All the dishes have their own surprising moments, but they all fit together perfectly and demonstrate the skill in using herbs, spices, and flavors. And the whole thing is presented with such understatement, as if the quality of the cuisine were completely self-evident. I've rarely eaten so well. A huge compliment to Andy Kilburn! What a gorgeous and cozy pub this is. Atmosphere is wonderful and made better by the super friendly and lovely staff. The food was also top tier. We had the beef ragu to start, the Venison and Fish & Chips as our mains - all of which were delicious. One of the best Fish & Chips we’ve had in a while! Fish was soft with a thin crispy batter and the chips and peas were equally superb (especially since these can sometimes be overlooked!). Home made Tartare sauce was fantastic. Decided to visit here for dinner based off of google reviews, and I can say it did not disappoint! Staff were lovely and welcoming, and couldn’t have done more to help. Food was absolutely amazing, you could tell all the ingredients were fresh, and recipes well thought out, and the desserts were out of this world! Also super accommodating for children - they don’t have a kids menu specifically but are very accommodating of children, and many of their main meals can be made suitable for little ones.
