The White Horse Inn — Restaurant in England

Because of our dietary requirements, we are not normally last minute eating out people, but I called on a Sunday midday to ask if a Vegan, Veggie and Gluten free would be able to have something to eat later that day. They checked with the chef who said it was ok so we booked in. We are so so happy that we did. I can't believe the attention to detail the chef puts into accommodating to other dietary requirements. We were happy to go in and have whatever they could offer, but the chef even adjusted some specials, and we were told that had we booked far enough in advance we could have had more to choose from to eat. We didn't mind only having one or two options (makes it easier! -but GF there were plenty of naturally GF options) as the options we had to eat were incredibly tasty. Flavourousome, wholesome food, pairings of ingredients which are thoughtful and cooked perfectly. The service and staff were all so welcoming and helpful, if I were to live nearby I would be a regular (perhaps unfortunately for the chef haha). I will recommend this to anyone coming to the area, or to go the extra mile out of their way to spend a visit. Thank you for the lovely food...

Outstanding! The best restaurant the best restaurant in the north! Locally scoured food of the highest quality- supporting local farmers and small businesses. Quality and flavour is key at the white horse. The attention to detail is amazing not only with the food but also the drinks choice! Some I have never seen outside of london but without the price tag! This is why we continue to return. All the food is home cooked and fresh! Nothing frozen or microwaved- even the house wine is stunning- I love how you get a much superior quality house wine due to it not being served in cheap individual bottles. It is decanted from boxes/barrels as this preserves the flavours- again I haven’t seen this attention to detail anywhere other than high end london restaurants. If you are looking for quality food with beautiful flavours you will love it here!

I can highly recommend the cheese and ham croquettes! And the Sunday roast is amazing! But then...

Absolutely horrified and disgusted at the experience we had recently. Ordered a bottle of wine which was £26, it was an unlabelled open bottle which a woman told us was filled up with wine from a box as it’s cheaper to do it that way. The ham & cheese croquette for starters were sloppy, as soon as you cut into it, it’s spilt all over the plate and was tasteless. (The piccalilli was as Devine) The fish chowder!!!!!! Well I have never seen anything like it. It was brown like gravy got a start and had 2 large potatoes and 3 types of fish which still had the bones in. We were seated at 7pm and and were gone by 8pm. Sorry but...
