Popped in on route from a day at Darlington hospital before going home. Read the reviews in the waiting room and decided to visit as the whole family was starving and it was on the way home. Pub car park was empty at 5.30 so it wasn't busy inside there was a few people in and as we sat down to choose what we wanted to eat and drink a few more couples and birthday party rolled in. Good choice of menu and special offers. We went for 2 mains for 11 pounds so we ordered gammon and chips fish and chips scampi and chips and a chicken tikka curry with a round of mixed drinks cider cokes and a pot of tea all came to cost of £38 so good value for money. Service was very slow and when the food arrived it was cold not just one plate every dish was cold we where so hungry we just ate it. The waiter never returned to ask if we wanted any additional sauces or returned mid meal to enquire if everything was okay. We had to look for salt from another table as ours was empty . My daughter said that the warmest thing on her curry was the naan bread. My mother in law gave me half her plate of fish and chips she left as she couldn't eat them cold food and under cooked chips and rock hard peas, my wife had the same issue so I got more extra cold chips and peas. I wasn't impressed with mine as it was cold and never asked if I wanted any additional sauces like mustard so I just used the ketchup on the table to soften the peas and add flavour and later I had egg and chips with lashings of tartare sauce from my donations. My daughter is a trougher like me and just ate hers as she was hungry and I was brought up never to waste food so I am the classic plate cleaner but failed today some chips where so tough I had to leave them. Yes you have to look at the price we paid and if them dishes where piping hot and fresh I think we would be happier and think about coming again. To be fair we have paid more and eaten worse elsewhere but the conversation on the way home we all scored it 14/40 even with a 5 star hygiene rating and unanimous that we won't...
Read moreFood was bland at best. The table behind us where already complaining about their meal to the staff whilst we waited for ours so we knew it might not be good. First off, the menu says hand cooked fries. Cant say I consider putting frozen chips into the fryer "hand cooked but thats what we got. Secondly, in the case of the chicken meal I ordered, the half roast chicken was anything but roasted (it had clearly been cooked in a microwave), the char grilled chicken portion was dry and flavourless (might have been re heated), and the chicken bites where out of a frozen bag as well. On top of that, the BBQ gravy served with the meal, (for which I had to wait whilst server attended the table behind me) was hot gravy poured on top of cold BBQ sauce. Honestly could of prepared a better meal myself which negates the whole point of eating out. However, my wife and daughter quite enjoyed the cod they had so not all bad.
We where also seated next to the kitchen and every other time a female staff member entered the kitchen they screamed and laughed (clearly a bit of goofing off going on). This wouldn't bother me except the staff seemed more interested in this than say, taking away our and other peoples empty plates that had sat for 40 mins or more (we noted at least two uncleared tables for the whole duration of our 90 mins there). I would have said something but after the (justifiable) complaints the table behind ours made, I didn't see the point as the staff answer was "we're having a bad day". We just finished and left.
Very disappointing meal considering the last time we visited the food was really good. Can't say we'll be going again...
Read moreI came into this pub for a drink and thought their deals on food and menu looked pretty decent so came back to try something. They have a good sized menu with plenty of things to suit everyone. Their prices are really reasonable and they have really good deals. If you make an account on their website you can get a free pint of coors beer with your burger (or a half if you're driving). I ordered the old faithful beef double burger. It took about 5-10 minutes to get to my table. Everything was hot. The chips were really nice and crispy. I ordered the burger minus the bbq sauce because it's not my thing and I put mayo from the condiments selection on the table. The burger meat itself is not gourmet. Quite thick burgers but that's not a put down - I've just been on the hunt for the perfect burger for a long time. It was still tasty and i ate most of it (it's huge!). Overall the food was really good value for money, really filling and i left feeling bloated in the best possible way. The pub is really nice and can be busy but it seems to draw a respectful crowd. It wasn't rowdy. The staff are really friendly and everything is really clean and comfortable. There's also a really nice beer garden out front with nice lights that make it quite cosy. There's also another smaller beer garden out the back. If you want a nice pub and some good grub - I highly recommend the...
