Heard that The White Lion at Llanclys cross had been taken over by a new landlord and did a complete revamp to it. Popped over to see for myself if it lived up to all it's good reviews and, it certainly is true and looks fantastic. What an amazing transformation from the 8 years or so ago that I last popped in! Peggy and Owen the staff were very friendly, welcoming and made me feel totally at home. The inside decorations are warm, modern and relaxed and the outdoors seating area and new BBQ oven looks great, wow! Met Steve the new proprietor and landlord and his smiling personality and friendly character was a delight to experience. I decided to have a light snack and ordered their Sausage with Red onions Baguette which came with homemade chips. The freshness of my baguette, sausages, red onions and chips were delicious, chips exactly how they should be, crispy chips..no saggy bottoms here! My pint of Station pale bitter cask ale from the local Stonehouse Brewery in Weston was perfectly kept, perfectly chilled and served in a proper "handle/jug/pimples&dimples" pint glass, yes! A big thank you and shout out to you all for such a great lunch, great pint and a most enjoyable experience on my return to here!!

Definitely recommend a visit to The White Lion here in Llanclys and see for yourself the complete new transformation of this great public house and...

What a shame. Visited on Saturday evening 6th August - Good atmosphere when we arrived; ordered food; staff first class; food very good, still eating our sweet when it started to go wrong....With no warning, the music was turned up full volume to the point we could not talk to our friends on our own table !. We asked the barman to turn it down to be told "the boss has just come back in and this is his favourite song...I will turn it down in a minute, which to be fair he did... for about 30 seconds, then back up again to full volume. We asked for it to be turned down again without success - the group of men at the bar, one of which we understand was the owner or manager, were determined to continue their party in spite of customers wishes... as it was plain our custom was no longer wanted we asked for the bill . When the bill arrived my friend and I went to the bar to pay, at the same time as a familiy with two young girls who were also waiting to pay only to be met by the group of men laughing and swearing, using language that I definately would not want any young daughter of mine to be confronted with. The barman then asked if we had enjoyed our meal to which we told him it had been great till the end when we had never felt so unwanted in a restaurant in our lives .. He apologised but said there was nothing he could do. Needless to say no...

Absolutely gobsmacked by our experience here.. being local aswell it's a shame.. called in for a quick drink and the kids to stretch legs.. people behind the bar fantastic.. was told there was a park outside.. off we went to be greeted by a German shepherd who insisted on staying in the park watching my kids closely.. my son is petrified of dogs at the best of times from a bad experience.. he started crying wanted the dog to go.. too frightened to play.. I went to the lady outside watering the plants and explained to her the situation she said nothing apart from the dogs ok.. and walked off to what I believe was her husband just glaring at us and seeing that my kids wouldn't play..sorry but if that was my business and somebody was uncomfortable about a dog they have never even met I would take it away from the situation or at least go and talk to the family and introduce the dog but nope they left the dog in the park with my son still crying.. I'm absolutely furious.. we grabbed our kids and left without finishing drinks.. horrid...

The White Lion at Llynclys near Oswestry is a fabulous find if you happen to be driving to North Wales for a holiday or just want a great pint or real ale. This is the fourth time we have stopped here just about halfway through our journey from Oxford. The pub is super clean including the toilets and including the gents, the floor was not awash with whatever and as for the food and beer!!!!! And all in for £28 for two. We only have light bites which is quite a meal in itself at lunchtime,… today we had scampi chips and peas and I had a nice pint of beer and my partner had a glass of pinot Grigio. Both were served at the ideal temperature we were sat down straight away with no quibble about having a tab. Service with a smile by one of the lads who actually recognise us for our trip in April. Pubs like this are very few and far between. Bright, welcoming, good food, thankfully no jukebox or one arm bandits to distract. I really recommend this as a stop over as it’s well frequented by the locals so they must know!

What a wonderful pub! We popped in on our way back home from Liverpool to Abercrave and were immediately met by a wonderfully decorated pub. Smiling staff and the pleasant smell of pub food. We ordered our food off the reasonably priced menu. I had the salt and chilli chicken starter, which is served with a side salad (a few wilted pieces). Generous portion. Hubby had the beef burger served with onion rings and fries. Well presented but would have benefited from a pickle and red onion to elevate the flavour of the burger. Overall, very impressed. Thanks
