Fantastic country pub/Restaurant - A worthwhile visit. First thing to mention is, Pre book a table. It gets very busy and is not many tables just for walk ins, It can go from quiet to very busy within a few minutes. So I have been meaning to go for a while now, after hearing some good reports from various people on the food here. So I went and can safely say the food was fantastic! Our party had fish & Chips , Scampi and the Steak & Ale pie. All were superb! Just the right portion size to treat yourself to a desert afterwards too. The food was homemade, generous size and not full of chips which a lot of places do. All very tasty and came with in a reasonable time. As well as the main menu there is also an array of local chef specials on the board. The Chocolate brownie with the Sea Salt/Caramel Icecream was delicious, as well as the Ginger sponge and custard it is easily enough for two and very light. There is a wide variety of beers/ales etc to have but only a couple of largers, the usual for a local country pub. A great atmosphere is too be had here too. Again well worth a visit, you wont be disapointed in your over all experience. Also it is worth a mention that this is also a dog friendly pub.

Just had lunch here. We ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich for £9 and a ploughman's for £15. After a very lengthy wait of about 45mins the resulting meals were not great. The bread on the sandwich was not particularly fresh. It did come with an unexpected side of chips. The biggest disappointment was the ploughman's. One third of the plate was an uninspired salad of shredded lettuce with a couple cherry tomatoes, a couple pieces of thin sliced cucumber and sliced red onion on top. Another third was taken up with a ramekin holding 3 boiled potatoes and a pre wrapped single portion of butter. 2 slices of ham,one boiled egg 2 pickled beetroot and 2 pickled onion. I couldn't even see the cheese at first. 2 triangle slices of cheddar. Not in my opinion £15 worth. I wouldnot recommend.

I had the Sunday Lunch Roast Leg of Pork with Potatoes both roasted and mash along with carrots and parsnip. Yorkshire pudding and wonderful gravy! I struggled to finish the plate after ordering the regular size which quite frankly pleasantly surprised me how much food was offered at such a reasonable cost. Highly recommend giving Widdrington a try. In fact my wife and I went back for lunch the following day for a light bite. Wow the chips were amazing! I ordered a Light portion mango chutney with delicious roasted chunks of chicken on ciabatta+small salad sharing a fresh herb vinegrette. All good eats but the chips were amazing! What else can I say but get down there if you can Enjoy! As good as any home cooked meal in recent memory without muss or fuss!

Visited today 28th July '22 for a special 90th birthday meal. Food we had was fine. BUT I ordered a side salad which came with an oil and balsamic dressing. When ordering I stated quite clearly that I wanted no oil, and if it was a mixed dressing I did want it. We waited 40 mins and then queried the wait. We were told it would be 6 or 7minutes. We waited and the meals arrived. However my salad had oil on it. I told the waitress that I had ordered it without oil . She took it away and brought it back and told me there was no oil on it! I could clearly see there was, pointed it out on my finger and showed her it on the serviette. She told me it was the balsamic!!! A clear greasy stain!!! She took it away and then the owner(?) came out with the same salad and said the chef said there was no oil on it!! I pointed it out to him as well. I resent being lied to, and by being accused of saying the chef was in the wrong. It could have been solved far more simply. When I paid the bill I asked I'd I had been charged for it and I had!!! It was then taken off the bill. Such a shame as it left a bitter taste to what should have been a lovely special meal. Don't think I'll be going back, not because of the food, because of the service, and attitude. The 3 stars are for the...

We were really disappointed with our visit to The Widdrington Inn today. We have been several times before but today the service was really poor and the manager quite rude and abrupt. We went for lunch with our parents and young daughter. Despite only ordering a selection of bar snacks (chicken, Camembert, potato skins etc) we waited for over an hour before asking where our food was. We were told it was on the way, with no apology being made for the delay. After another 10 minutes my father complained and said if we don’t get food within another 5 minutes he’s going to ask for his money back. The manager said that this was us ‘threatening’ her, which of course is ridiculous. When a customer calmly complains about poor service (without anger, shouting or rude language) this is not threatening behaviour. And saying that we will want a refund if our paid for goods are not provided is also in no way a threat. It’s a shame because when our food did finally arrive it was actually of an ok standard for the price paid. It was just the slow service and awful attitude of the manager that ruined the visit. Next time when your service is extremely poor and late I suggest you start with apologising and not accusing calm elderly pensioners of using...

We kept looking to come here for a bite to eat & after a lovely walk around Druridge Country Park called in for Sunday lunch. We joined the waiting list & it didn't take long before our table was ready. We all chose roast dinners, 2 beef, 1 pork & 1 lamb. Accompanying the meat was a small amount of mash, swede, peas, roast x 2 & a Yorkshire pudding with a small dish (between 4) of cauliflower cheese. The roast potatoes were terrible, with absolutely no colour on them at all. The cauliflower cheese did not have any cheese sauce & was burnt in places. The meat was very tender for all of us so no complaints there. I would not choose to eat a roast here again but the pub itself is very nice. The other negative was that the waiting staff and the lady on the till were miserable, particularly the lady on the till. No eye contact, no smile or please or thank you. She tapped the end of the contactless machine to indicate she was ready for the money to be paid. Shame really as it was such a beautiful autumnal Sunday & in difficult times that we are all facing, a smile and thank you would have gone a long way. I would recommend it but perhaps not on a Sunday when you can't book a table & when it seems they struggle with demand in...
