Attempted visit 8,4,23 at 4.47pm. After arriving after a 4mile walk we was glad to come across this pub. First glance, 2 cyclist enjoying a ice cold pint. Enter the bar to be told "bar not open till 5* confused look back at the cyclist. Was is some thing I said? Is it The way I was dressed? Returned outside to break the news to my thirsty partner and two dogs. Has that just happened? We watched the two cyclist return their 2 empty glasses back through the window to the gagging barmaid. Absolutely disgusting!! What is a dieing trade, I hope the next time I visit this beautiful place I find this dirty hole closed indefinitely. Ps, landlord or manager, check your cctv if you have it Avoid this place, it needs a good clean and decent staff. Clean the dimps outside.. Following on Annette, I'm surprised you found my dummy amongst all the dimps out side of your mucky pub!! Ps That 13mins didn't apply to the cyclist did it? Give that pub and good clean and encourage your staff to have a...
Read moreThis place was highly recommended to us so we popped in for a quick drink and to check the place out for another visit.
There was no non-alcoholic drinks available when we asked (and overheard another couple who were pregnant ask for non-alcoholic as well), also no crisps or bar snacks of any form.
When we asked to see the food menu (to see what was available for next time) we were told there are no tables available. We said our intentions just to see the food available and were asked "but why, why not just look next time when we book in" ..........
The food did smell good and looked like lovely large portions - just not sure how enthusiastic we now are to go back and try the food following this visit.
Minor side complaint, asked to use the WiFi, couldn't connect, we were told it was both of our phones that must not be working, only for the card machine not to work when we tried to pay - because it couldn't connect...
Read moreWe stayed in an B&B up the same road and needed to eat, this pub was in walking distance, we booked in advance, which was just as well as they are only open between 5 - 8pm ! Tables were basic and very sticky . I had the steak and ale pie , mash potatoes and vegetables, the pie was strange as the gravy was set like jelly although it was hot, tasteless with soggy pasty, mash was okay and veg seemed fresh not frozen . My husband had a chicken sizzling plater , sweet potato chips and salad , he was so hungry he ate it , but said it wasn't nice . We decided not to have a sweet . I've no idea why this business trades the way it does , being open for 3 hours and then turning people away( we saw this on our way out) seeems crazy at busy times of the year , we personally would not recommend...
