I never write negative reviews as in general always try to write positive reviews when justly deserved and give people the benefit of the doubt but I recently went to the Wyndham Arms and experienced the worst customer service I think I have ever had.
Having bought a couple of drinks and snacks we asked if we could sit outside and put up one of the umbrellas and were told to be careful as one of the outside parasols was broken.
We tried to put up the parasol that we sat at but found the cord was detached from the handle mechanism used for putting up the umbrella and clearly broken. In the process of putting it up a grey haired lady came out and shouted at us “Have either of you had an education?!” She then proceeded to accuse us that we had broken the parasol and told us to move away from it.
She then went inside and proceeded to say loudly inside so everyone in the pub could hear how we had broken the parasol. Initially I thought she was joking when she first came out as couldn’t believe someone would talk so rudely to a customer but very quickly realised she wasn’t.
She is now proceeding to say that we are lying on another review site and that the cord was broken by us (I am 100% certain it wasn't) and that we have no respect for other people's property.
Based on how rude she was on the day, I shouldn't be shocked by this but I am. Myself and the person I was with are both in our 40s, we weren't drunk or disorderly, we are educated (in answer to her aggressive question) and are well mannered human beings - we were out having one drink together after having gone for a walk in the area. However we have been treated as if we had purposefully damaged her property which was simply not the case. I had hoped maybe there would be an apology from her (maybe she was having a bad day) but sadly all i have received is further aggression and abrasiveness. When i look at how they respond to negative reviews on this, I'm starting to see a pattern happening here.
I never write reviews but I feel so upset by this, I have to say something. I just hope this review might help to change how she talks to other customers. Even if we had broken the umbrella by mistake its really not the correct way to talk to a customer.
I worked in many restaurants, pubs and customer service roles when I was much younger and would never dream of talking to a customer in this manner. We didn’t force the umbrella, we noticed the cord was already detached when we initially started to open it but thought possibly there was another way to fix it in place.
I certainly won’t be returning and will advise all friends in the area to avoid too.
I would like to point out though the other lady working behind the bar was...
Read moreWe witnessed the second appearence of the now famously named "Charlotte" spider tonight when we visited the Wyndham Arms on 25th November 2023. Charlotte appears above one of the resturant tables during the evening, slowly lowering herself to almost table height and then, thinking better of it quickly climbs back up her single thread to disapear into the area above, that was apparently the second time Charlotte has appeared and done the same thing. It certainly added to the evenings entertainment as the clients eating their meal had not seen her inches away from their food ! perhaps it was too hot ! We again enjoyed the pubs now famous meals and service while celebrating the wife and myself's 50 years of marriage, and of course the king prawns with chorizo in a sauce were still on the menu and were as good as I remembered them from our last visit in September.
Best pub meal I have had in a long long time tonight , fantastic quality, presentation, value for money and staff, gave the largest tip I have ever ever given for eating out. Highly recommended . Back for another visit on 23 sept 2023, still brilliant food and service, i can highly recommend the king prawns with chorizo in a sauce...
