Myself, boyfriend and two dogs had a lovely impromptu lunch at The Yew Tree in Seatoller. We had been walking up Haystacks, planning to drive until we found somewhere to eat, and we stumbled upon this beautiful place. The beer garden is stunning - well kept flower beds with a river running through the end of it, which has all been well maintained. The inside is equally as lovely, having been refurbished but still keeping a lot of the building’s original features and character. I had the lamb kofta burger which was probably one of the best, if not the best, burger I have ever eaten with a side of the most amazing chips. My boyfriend had the steak ciabatta which looked equally as delicious. The staff were very welcoming, mentioning that the pub had only been re-opened 2 weeks prior, following a 15-year closure. We’re sad we only stumbled upon this amazing find on our last day and highly recommend to anyone in the local area.

We visited the Yew Tree pub during our bank holiday weekend trip to climb Scafell Pike. On our first night (Friday), the pub wasn't busy, and the food was good, albeit a bit greasy. Our second night (Saturday) was busier, which was understandable. However, the pub seemed unprepared as there were only two staff members serving. The food quality declined significantly - the risotto was very bland. We also ordered extra beers that never arrived at our table. Additionally, the food was on the pricier side. Surprisingly for 2025, they offered no IPAs or craft beers in their selection. Overall, it was a decent experience, especially convenient if you don't want to drive to Keswick from our campsite.

Had a bit of a shock this year finding my usual pubs closed with the Riverside Bar and Swinside gone. Bigger shock to find the Yew Tree back open on my doorstep in Seatoller and doing a great job. Bar service really friendly and personal. Food is proper pub food with effort thrown in. Rounded off with some good cocktails. Pub itself has been restored to its former glory especially the beer garden - weather permitting. Only improvement would be to add a door closer to the back door to make it more cosy in the evening. Had a brilliant week and we ate/drank there every night apart from Monday/Tuesday when it was closed.

We visited on a Saturday and ate off the lunch menu . My boyfriend had the fish and chips ,which was huge ,light and very tasty 😋. Followed by the sticky toffee pudding which was light and super sweet not as heavy as some toffee puddings can be . I had the beefburger and chips and both were amazing. I had the lemon posset to follow which was sharp and tangy . We had a side of the pickled onion battered onion rings and they were the best onion rings I've had and I love onion rings . We ate inside and there was a great atmosphere ,it's a great pub with a traditional feel and traditional food but with a modern style and top quality . The staff were super friendly .We visited with 2 small dogs who were welcome throughout. There is a great bear garden at the back and while we didn't eat out there this time it's a fantastic space with a few of the tables right near the strea at the rear with fantastic views . There are also a few options for covered eating when the weather is bad which is great for now with the season about to change and the colder ,wet weather in the way . Parking is not directly onsite but in a National trust car park just a few minutes walk away .this is free to national trust members and pay and display for non members . I can't wait to return to try more items off the menu . Prices are at the higher end for pub food but it is quality so worth every penny in my opinion . There are options for those on a smaller budget with items...

We visited this pub in 2024 and were very impressed with the food and the garden. Kind of fell in love with it. Sat in the absolutely beautiful garden with the dogs and had our meals and desserts. Both exceptional. We decided to return the following year. Tonight the place was very busy and for some reason they changed how they serve the meals. We were told that the garden menu was different. We decided to eat inside. We didn't have a reservation but managed to get one of the tables by the bar. I completely understand that it's best to book a table as obviously it's a popular spot. That wasn't a problem. I had a look at the garden menu and was confused as the meals were basically the same as the normal menu. The pub was very busy and we gave our table to couple of ladies who arrived without booking since we practically finished our main meal. We thought we will have our desserts outside. Unfortunately after we left the table we were told the desserts can't be served outside. Last year they were? No valid reason or explanation was given, just a no. I struggle to understand what can that possibly be, since all the rest of the meals are served outside just in take away boxes. Overall a very confusing and off putting experience on...

This is a terrific revival effort after a ~17 year absence from Seatoller. The location itself is no more than a hamlet with a tiny population and some holiday accommodation so it’s going to need lots of appeal to draw punters in from around the valley particularly in winter when the campsites are closed.

Based on our experience on a couple of consecutive evenings recently, they’re off to a great start and I truly hope it can be made to work long term. The food is of a good quality, sort of pub++, albeit a touch expensive but I expected this given the location. It was also slightly cool inside (4c outside) which didn’t bother us but the table opposite were clearly wishing it was a little warmer. An open fire provided some warmth but radiators appeared to be off. There’s some on street parking close by or a national trust carpark a minutes walk away. The staff are polite, attentive and an asset to the pub.

We visit Seatoller annually and are really looking forward to revisiting Yew Tree next...
