Stopped here after doing the 5k railway walk. Lovely little cafe, home made cakes, nice coffee. But the manager is very rude. On the day they short staffed and were not doing hot food or sandwiches. So I bought 4 slices of cake and 3 hot drinks totalling nearly £25. Sat down and realised that we had some left over sandwiches from our walk. So we along with our cake we had bought, began to eat our sandwiches. Within mins, the manager came over and with a snotty snarling tone told us that we could not eat our own food in the cafe. This was fine but my wife had litterally 2 bites of her sandwich left and she explained this to him but he replied that it was not allowed. He made us feel really unwelcome. He even went as far as to say, that we were giving the customers the wrong impression and he appologised the the table behind us. When we left my autistic nephew said thank you and good bye and they all completely ignored him which really upset him. What a shame as this is a lovely little cafe with tasty cakes and really nice coffee. The manager needs a lesson in...
Read moreGreat find, lovely staff, lovely food. Spent some time camping at Low Hollows and this cafe here was a find. By chance me and my friend located it while on a morning walk to a bus stop to take us to Penrith and we decided to take a stop by for breakfast and a sweet treat to go. For our breakfast we both got a sausage sandwich, my friend was catered for with the vegetarian version , no complaints◡̈. The Victoria sponge was perfect with our cup of tea later that day on the Ullswater steamers. Of course, on our travels back home the following day, we had to stop for lunch. We both had the pea and mint soup of the day. I had mine with a cheese scone for a smaller additional cost. It was delightful ◡̈. If you are not a local and visiting near Threlkeld, give this little shop a visit. Even more, they have a little gift shop section which is great for us visitors, shame I was in a little bit of a rush, but next time! The service is timely and one of the ladies working there recalled me from our first visit, lovely...
Read moreNOT GOOD! The covid one way system has completely removed the wheelchair/buggy access.
It’s quite humiliating having to go the wrong way round the one way system, moving furniture and signs out the way just to get a pram to the bottom of the lift. Everyone starred at us and then we started getting funny looks from the staff after trying to use the lift.
Once in, we had to explain ourselves and our support bubble. We have a new born and the staff didn’t understand that a family with a baby under 1 can form a support bubble with another household.
We felt humiliated to start with and were then interrogated by staff who didn’t believe us and threatened us with the wrath of the manager.
This place was a nice family friendly place before covid. Now it seems you’re not welcome if you’ve got a small baby and you need to use the...
