We was seated and drinks order was taken, I asked the young girl was flavoured gin they had, she did not know, so I said surprise me, as long as it’s flavoured gin with lemonade. She came back and gave me my drink and I asked what gin it was and she did not know and had to go back, she came back and said dry gin, I asked for flavoured so that had to be changed, double gin was served with only a dash of lemonade, was very strong! we was also missing a coke. I went to re order a gin and lemonade and same again hardly any lemonade, and my mum had a pino and lemonade and the gas had gone/syrup had gone as both drinks tasted awful, did not taste like lemonade. I asked at the bar this might be the case and both owners denied it and I just asked for them to top up the drinks with lemonade and once it settled it tasted awful. I wasn’t going to argue due to how the owners came accross. The man said “you got more for your money” as a joke after I asked for more lemonade. It was like they was very stingy. Nothing against all the young staff, it’s not their fault. They was all helpful. The young chap who took our food order did not know what an Asian salad was so had to go in the kitchen and ask. Food was nice but very expensive! The most expensive place I’ve ever gone to with most tables having problems with orders being taken. Alarm was going off for ages and no one knew when it was going to go off because they did not have a code. Deserts were £9 and no children’s options. We did not stay for desert. I wont be back here. Everywhere was busy too and this place was very quiet and not busy at all. My first gin I had no ice or a slice. My second I had to ask for ice and a slice. It was a poor effort. This place needs to a manager that knows how to train their staff well to a high standard and to run the show.

After going to a couple other inn’s in the area, and running out of ideas for somewhere to eat - i came across the Turnpike Inn on google maps. I never normally leave reviews but this place was so great that i thought i’d go to the effort. I saw that it was rated very highly, so we decided to go and see for ourselves. From the outside it looks like any other pub, but on the inside it has a nicely decorated interior and bar with tables laid out well. It is dog - friendly and the staff are extremely welcoming. Service was 10/10, and as a member of waiting staff at a restaurant myself, that is high praise. The waitress made sure we could order our drinks quickly, and then after receiving them - our food too. The food was all that you could ask for, £18.50 for a burger is relatively steep - but it didn’t fall short of the mark (both the beef and the chicken burger were easily some of the best my family have ever had). Once we had our food we were checked up on and the kind lady made sure that we had all of the condiments that we wanted. The atmosphere was great, although it wasn’t the quietest - but we were sat near the entrance and there was a large table of people so you can’t expect much else. Thankyou to the team at the Turnpike Inn for a great dinner on our short stay down near Gwithian. Definitely on the map from now on.

Outstanding Food! I wasn't quick enough to take pictures of our food and we have left nothing on our plates. I looked for a nice place to take the family for dinner while on holiday, and so lucky we have found this gem. Quick to book a table and been greeted super friendly by the lovely waiter. The atmosphere was magic. The menu had plenty to chose from but not too much, kids menu options also. Once we've orderd it didn't take long for all of our food to arrive, 7 people, 8 dishes and it all looked perfect. We had the catch of the day, a Greek salad, the pork belly, a burger, some artisan bread and more the kids loved the food, us adults were amazed by how good the food was. Honestly an absolute highlight of the holidays this year. Will definitely come back when we're down Cornwall next time and super affordable aswell. I would pick this place out of all restaurants we've ate ever down there so If you're up for a nice meal with or without kids this is the place to go. Thanks again to the staff and the kitchen for making our evening so delightful.

Sadly something has changed here. We are locals and whilst we don't eat out much, we have our favourites - this being one of them. We have always rated this as our safe pub to go to and take family to when they come to visit. You could guarantee great service, great food and a lovely atmosphere.

We went in April and whilst the food and staff was still good, the atmosphere was lacking. We put this down to it being an off day.

However, went back last night and it just wasn't right. Positives: Fish and chips were excellent Both other fish dishes cooked really well and lots of flavour.

Negatives: Most odd curry ever - It was described as a Kerala Curry with coconut, red chilli and garlic. It came out with carrots, spring onions and lumps of potato in the tiny dish with little chicken. What there was of the chicken was chewy, the sauce was watery, no flavour and there was definitely no coconut, red chilli or garlic.

Both fish dishes were served luke warm, one had a very watery sauce and the one described as being on a bed of bubble and squeak came out minus this. When we asked about this, the plate was taken away and a tiny piece of what looked looked like pre-formed bubble and squeak came out on the side. This tasted nice but was cold in the middle.

When staff brought over cutlery etc it was just dumped on the table for us to lay it up ourselves.

There was zero atmosphere and if anything it felt like the staff were nervous, not the relaxed, humourous crowd we've been used to.

We had a nice time and the food was ok but just that. So sadly we will now be looking for a new local pub to go to until we hear of this one pulling...

When arriving at the turnpike Inn, we had been seated and then waited 45 minutes to receive a menu, when receiving menu which we ended up looking for ourself after staff were prompted 3 times we then picked what we would like but unfortunately 25% of the things on the menu were not available.

When order was placed we then waited another 45 minutes for our starters to arrive, at this point we had been in the building for an hour and half and only just started to receive food.

Mains came, 2 steaks were incorrectly cooked, every order was missing something, fish extremely greasy, no veg for pie instead put a salad in place and no gravy, side of onion rings forgotten about until prompted for them,

When manager was made aware of all of this, she instantly jumped down our throats saying that it is not her problem, "what are you trying to do get a free meal out of us well this is not happening I can't afford it" this was not our intention to get a free meal, we just wanted to give some constructive criticism, she then removed her glasses and started to attempt to scare with a child of the age of 2 present getting to close for comfort, she was then made aware that she was not going to intimidate us and then started walking off too the bar area laughing even though she was being spoken to. Hiding in the kitchen shouting out the door to her waiting staff " have they gone yet?!"

I would not recommend people who are not your local to come here as you don't seem to "fit in" unless you want to get drunk and not eat then this is perfect for you (if your lucky enough...
