I broke my journey north, leaving the M5 knowing I would have a good meal in lovely surroundings. ||||We spent holidays nearby and I have been an occasional visitor for over 30 years, served by the same landlord. One reason for writing this is to counter the negative reviews I have seen - I simply don't recognise them as describing this place!||||The landlord gave me a quiet, but decent welcome as befits a lovely old fashioned pub nestling under the Quantock Hills.||||I had an excellent pint followed by the set menu - three courses at £17.50 which included pate starter, pork main - beautifully cooked, piping hot and very decent portions - and a cheesecake and coffee to finish. ||||As I came in a couple were choosing dessert, they pronounced themselves very pleased with the meal.||||I suspect that if you are expecting an experience similar to AllBarOne or an upmarket chain with it's student staff and craven welcomes befitting braying tourists then look elsewhere. If however you want an excellent meal after a day's march or biking on the Quantocks I cannot recommend it enough. ||||I'm sorry to go on (and I'm not a friend of the landlord!) but I only have to walk through the door to feel completely relaxed and at home. It was quieter than usual but the place has a Zen like calm which I have enjoyed...

We went here a while ago whilst staying at Secret Valley (which was awesome) we walked in with our pram containing our daughter and the landlord was horrified and asked “is that a baby in there?” Whilst looking disgusted that we had brought a child in. When we asked if we could use the beer garden he said “you won’t get that thing out there” - referring to the pram. We sat at a table at the front instead, this is next to the road which was fine as it’s a quiet spot. Another family that was there had asked for a straw and were told by the landlord “I don’t have them it encourages children” !!!! If you have procreated, or have children in your party AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Sadly zero stars is not an option. Some people should not work in the hospitality trade and this guy is...

Good home cooked food at a very reasonable price. Especially from the Lunch Menu. Pâté on Toast with Red Onion Chutney. A Trio of Cumberland Sausages on Mash Steak and Stilton Pie on Mash Fish and Chips Lemon 🍋 Panacotta Summer Fruits Cheesecake Bit of a hidden gem as most people just drive by. We will be definitely will be back.

A true hidden gem. Pub (building) dates back to 1848 and has been a tresured part of the area since. Time capsule original interior, featuring a lovely bar. Wide range of drinks, good homemade food, and rooms available, too. It's worth seeking this one out. 👌

Very interesting historical pub with nice tasty homemade food at good prices. Nice and cosy inside and the landlord was knowledgeable of the local area
