I broke my journey north, leaving the M5 knowing I would have a good meal in lovely surroundings. ||||We spent holidays nearby and I have been an occasional visitor for over 30 years, served by the same landlord. One reason for writing this is to counter the negative reviews I have seen - I simply don't recognise them as describing this place!||||The landlord gave me a quiet, but decent welcome as befits a lovely old fashioned pub nestling under the Quantock Hills.||||I had an excellent pint followed by the set menu - three courses at £17.50 which included pate starter, pork main - beautifully cooked, piping hot and very decent portions - and a cheesecake and coffee to finish. ||||As I came in a couple were choosing dessert, they pronounced themselves very pleased with the meal.||||I suspect that if you are expecting an experience similar to AllBarOne or an upmarket chain with it's student staff and craven welcomes befitting braying tourists then look elsewhere.
