Under the Nut Tree, tucked away in the deepest Herefordshire countryside, offers a magical experience. Dog-friendly and decidedly off the beaten track, this open-air restaurant (with some cosy indoor seating for chilly nights) is all about rustic charm. Think shabby chic with twinkling fairy lights, gorgeous art in the barn and the gentle flicker of fire pits casting dancing shadows, and the irresistible aroma of food cooked over open flames. It’s BYOB, so pack your favourite bottle (and maybe some glasses – rookie mistake there!), because the soundtrack is perfect for kicking back and enjoying the vibe. The team deserves a standing ovation. These fire masters work like a well-oiled machine, conjuring deliciousness for a staggering 100 covers, all served at 7:30 pm. Service is warm and friendly, making you feel instantly welcome. Now, onto the food! We started with a mini explosion of flavour: wild garlic pesto pizza, bursting with garlicky goodness, nestled alongside creamy burrata and crunchy macadamia nuts. Divine. For mains, a feast arrived family-style: fire-roasted Hereford beef, so tender it practically melts in your mouth, boasting beautifully caramelised edges. Crunchy garlic potatoes, (the best I’ve ever had!) and a perfectly fire-roasted courgette with a squeeze of burnt lemon, with a rocket and parmesan salad which rounded out the plate. Portions are plentiful, enough to leave you satisfied without feeling overstuffed. Dessert continued the local theme. A warm chocolate ricotta cake, paired with vanilla ice cream made just down the road. Every bite whispered of fresh ingredients and pure indulgence. Under the Nut Tree is best suited for groups rather than a romantic dinner for two. Booking is essential, and the set meal is £55 per head. Under the Nut Tree, run by the husband-and-wife team of Simon and Carolina Morley isn’t your typical restaurant; it’s an experience about conviviality, breathtaking views, and the joy of savouring locally sourced ingredients cooked with love over an open fire. An absolutely perfect way to spend a summer evening with...

But nestled in the dreamy green hills of Herefordshire on one of England’s most beautiful country estates, you can find one of the most satisfying and reasonably-priced rustic dining experiences of all time.
Under the Nut Tree is the new outdoor supper club from Simon Morley and wife Carolina. While you sit relaxing under a sprawling hazelnut tree beside the glow of the fire pit gazing at the idyllic views, the charismatic hosts serve up a knockout menu of locally sourced food. In terms of quality, freshness and taste, this is outdoor home-cooking at its very best. As one of the couple’s first guests, we sampled the beef brisket (smoked for 12 hours and finished on the BBQ) accompanied by their garden grown salad with courgette flowers and lemon and maple dressing. The tender succulent meat was bursting with exquisite flavour and was amongst the best I've ever eaten - it paired like a dream with the sweet freshness of the freshly-picked lettuce. The whole menu from chicken parfait beginning (with crusty smoked bread) to Carolina’s berry delight with Herefordshire strawberries and raspberry coulis (picked that afternoon from their garden) was nothing short of perfection.
But this experience is far more than the menu. The atmosphere is genuinely friendly and welcoming and the ambience is laid-back and convivial. Simon is a great raconteur and enthusiast whose love for cooking overflows from his outdoor kitchen.
On all fronts, I can't recommend this experience more highly and we can’t wait for another delectable evening under the stars.

After a long journey we arrived (navigating the usual mobile phone signal ‘Not Spots’) you can stick 5g where it hurts because I would be happy with a constant 2G in the countryside of the UK (as a ‘G’ sacrifice) the mobile phone operators don’t have a clue what people want, ‘A Signal’ would be nice !
We car parked up in the apple orchard just in time for a bit of very late summer sun, then walked the 10 yards to the eating event where the smell of open fire cooked food could be inhaled by the cubic metre.
A whole pig was on offer tonight (cooked over the wood embers for previous 24 hours ‘plus’, by ‘indirect heat’ (ask John Terode about it)
Droves of guests appeared within a short period of time and settled down at their respective tables, if you want fine dining with white table cloths don’t come here ( please )
Take your own drink, what could be nicer !
But if you are after an outdoor eating experience with your friends, and be around people who like people, who like food , who like being somewhere a little different, then you have arrived at the right place.
After dinner, sit around a fire pit and go home smelling like a kipper, bliss.
The establishment owners have an interesting story to tell, but try not to interrupt their cooking, because I’m hungry.
Have a lovely time and remember to switch off your mobile phone (because there’s no signal...
