Unfortunately not a very good stay couldn't use shower as there wasn't enough pressure for water to spray it just dripped even after landlord changed shower head for new one. Sadly meal I had 1st night made me ill so avoided eating there did try breakfast next morning a bacon sandwich but sadly couldn't eat it as bacon tasted off. So avoided food altogether even though breakfast was included . The room itself was comfortable decor a little tired but clean which is more important. Saddened and dissapointedthat they didn't tidy room empty bins etc daily excuse was they didn't know if I was in or not. That's not a reason. So they left towels etc outside the room. The bowl that the tea and coffe was originally in was very dirty with hair sugar and what looked like epoxy glue and ash stuck to it. I realised this as I was going to have a cup a soup in it, landlady didn't apologise just said that the bowl wasn't for eating out of as if it was ok for it to be dirty. It worried me that the light switches were built into the wooden headboard as it would make it impossible to clean under and also behind as could be seen by the years of built up dust etc behind the headboard. The room was just about warm enough but the bathroom was freezing made worse by the fact I had to have stripwashes because shower wasn't powerful enough. They are lovely people and the pub is a lovely relaxed place and WOULD happily use the pub regularly if I was a local. But I cannot recommend the food or the room I was in and wouldn't stay again. They obviously struggle to keep on top of things for one reason or another and their strengths lie in being landlord and landlady not as people who run a guest house type establishment. Change your menu and your chef make it good honest simple fayre with good honest honestly meals your menu isn't a la carte as you seem to believe it's just a menu that most folk don't want at a silly price point. And what's on it if not cooked right is just not good. Who ever makes the bread 100% for that. Trust your instincts be brave and get a shorter better menu.get a handyman in and do a snagging list for all the rooms give every room a deep clean. You have a wonderful busine5 that's lost in bad organisation and lack of schedules that need to be checked on...
Read moreWedding party having booked all of the this pubs rooms for an overnight stay the day before my daughter's wedding nearby. Together with an evening meal for 15 people, 12 of whom had pre ordered their meals prior to arrival, the last 3 people were added on the day of arrival. The twin room which I booked for me - mother of the bride and my 89 year old mum, wasn't clean. You could write your name in the dust on the furniture and laminate floor and there was someone's dirty sock in on the floor in one of the corners of the bedroom. I complained immediately and was told it would be sorted whilst we had our evening meal. It took over an hour in the evening for our food to be served, despite 12 of the 15 having pre ordered. On returning my Mum to the room later, it had still not been cleaned and on complaining about this again, I was given an immediate full refund for the cost of the room. However, the continental breakfast which you also have to pre order at check in and hand in asap was delivered to our room after my Mum and I had gone to bed, so it was left on a tray outside our bedroom door, including fresh milk, fresh yoghurt, and fresh orange juice. Should have been delivered into the room, which had a fridge to store these items in to keep them cool. Needless to say they hadn't been refrigerated overnight so they got left. Disappointing too, to find some of the breakfast items had been substituted for others, as they had run out on a Saturday evening? How can you run out of such simple items when you know months in advance all the rooms were booked? Crunchy nut cornflakes substituted with ordinary cornflakes, bananas substituted with apples, creamy yoghurt substituted with low fat. To top that, my sister in law's room received no delivery of a breakfast tray and had to come begging from the rest of us for what hadn't nee eaten by us. But we can also top that, on the day of the wedding, the Bride - my daughter, my niece and my sister in law all became unwell before 3pm and were being sick. None of them drank any alcohol on the day of the wedding and had very little the night before and went down with vomiting and diarrhoea overnight on the wedding day and are still suffering now, all of which we can only attribute to the Waggon and Horses at Eaton,...
Read moreI work in Congleton 4-6 months of the year and i recently stayed here. By far the worst hotel in the area. I was greeted on arrival by being advised that breakfast is between 9.00 am and 11.00 am. This wasn't advised at time of booking and not suitable for someone who is staying before going to work. The hotel is 20 yards from a busy road and the noise of the traffic is a joke. No double glazing or secondary windows in the rooms. To make it worse I was awoken at 5.00 am with a refuse lorry outside my window emptying the numerous bins and making signicant noise. This was repeated around 7.30 when another lorry emptied the bottle bins. I ate in the bar 1 night and the food and service was poor. The egg I got with my gammon steak was burnt and the yoke was like a hard boiled egg. The staff seemed more interestred in getting orders in and putting pressure on diners to order before the kitchen closed at 8.00 pm. On arrival back to my room for my second night I found out that the room hadn't been serviced. I had been given a flask of milk on arrival first night and with no fridge in the room I was surprised this wasn't changed or the room getting made up again. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and when I tried to drop my key off and mention some of the problems the bar / reception area was locked. I am always sympathetic to the hospitality industry and the tough they are going through, however this is the first time I have felt the need to advise others of such poor service...
