We spent Christmas day here 12 adults and 6 children. Pre booked our menu months in advance and made the staff aware I had an autistic son that will need to be away from the busy hustle bussel as much as possible. Was advised this was okay. On arrival, we were seated out the way, which was good however, under a loud speaker not good at all. It took 45 minutes until we approached staff and asked who was dealing with our table, then starters arrived. Childrens carrot sticks were dry and losing colour so not a good first impression. However, we all have off days so didnt raise this concern. When mains were served the turkey roast dinner for adults was the same as the childrens meals. When it was advertised as 2 York puds 3 slices of meat 2 stuffing squares. When we had 2 roast potatoes, 1 slice of turkey, 1 yorkshire pudding - if you got any and on the vegetarian meal a sausage wrapped in bacon was served with the dinner. On entering into puddings, the last straw was when the lovley waitress megan had to make us aware that they had run out of vanilla ic cream and billionaire bar. So 3 people and 2 children were left without a PRE ORDERED choices. Obviously with now upset children and disgruntled adults I asked megan to see the manager. Carly then turned up very confrontational from the offset and I listed all our concerns and in a rude and very unprofessional manner asked what did we want! I laughed and said well a full refund. She said also laughed and said that wont happen and said we can meet in the middle somewhere and then just turned and walked away with no agreement from us, just an assumption made by her this was acceptable. We than had a conversation about the unbelievable rudeness and customer service, in complete shock I processed what had happened and asked megan to see carly again. She then returned somewhat later, and I explained that the bill was already paid and so were our drinks - so how was the refund going to happen. She said cash very bluntly. I then asked did she know how much and she responded with a smile £30. I then address this was not enough. She was already walking away smirking at us. I then again unable to process all the shock went to find her near the bar. I explained this was enough for all the issues, she said that's all your having and if you dont like it take it up with head office. I was gobsmacked with her lack of customer service and said it's not good enough again. She responded with fine I wont give you a refund and go to head office very rudely again. I asked for contact details, she said she cant leave the bar and I said I d wait there for her. She got cover immediately from other bar and walk through the bar turning and slamming the bar down at the same time as saying watch your arm!. In total dismay, just stood and waited for her return she handed me the details, I gave them back and asked for her full name to be written down and she said again very rudely they are expecting your call. So I turned and returned to my table where out of no where 2 billionaire bars and vanilla ice cream arrived as we were putting on coats as all this commotion heighted my sons anxiety and really unsettled him and the other children. On leaving I called the number carly gave me and to no surprise head office wasnt open, so unless she has a bat phone I have no idea how head office would be expecting my call. So unhappy as it totally ruined our christmas and when I mentioned this to carly she responded with " what do you think you've done to mine". Again, totally shocked I took...
Read moreAfter paying over £650 and pre-ordering for 18 of us to celebrate Xmas here, I can honestly say ive never had such a poor experience in my life. After waiting 45mins to be greeted, then having to go to the kitchen to get cutlery, food came out cold, my children had thier meals forgotten about and by the time deserts came out - we where told that half of what we ordered wasnt available.
For all my vegan/vegetarian friends out there - you might want to check your plates before eating as the vegetarian in our group found a delicious meaty sausage wrapped in bacon (again, not as advertised on the menu) on his plate.
The food provided I wouldnt serve to my cat - it was disgraceful and very clear that they had not catered for the group, and food was running out. The meals that did actually turn up where cold and not as advertised - if your idea of an Xmas dinner is a paper thin slice of turkey with one potato, a handful of peas and gravy then this is the one for you.
I have eaten better Sunday lunches in cheaper pubs than this tragedy of a meal was.
The manager, Carly, was rude, aggressive and clearly on the verge of some sort of breakdown - we where refused any sort of solution and she just wanted us to get out. When confronted the manager stormed out of the restaurant and disappeared into oblivion (probably the back office).
I went back to the restaurant to look for something left behind, when I overheard the manager talking to her staff (customers where still in the restaurant) - "they where a F00king nightmare from start to finish" was said as she gestured to the table where we were sat. When challenged, I was told "how do you think we feel working on Xmas day"?
Well I can tell you how I feel about it - I think you should have some management coaching and consider a change of career. Clearly the hospitality business is not for you Carly.
If it wasn’t for the efforts of the lovely Megan - the one waitress who seemed to care about our concerns, despite looking overworked and exhausted (and the only face many of us in the restaurant saw), or the fact we had paid in advance and felt cheated with the poor service, poor quality AND quantity of food, we would have left far sooner than we did.
We are now sat at home, hungry, tired and feeling like Xmas dinner has been ruined - Avoid this absolute hell hole...
Read moreWell, where to start? The Wee Waif is a pub and hotel, with more emphasis and effort on the pub element. The parking was okay, like most parking it depends on time of day you get there. The pub and dining area is the same as any chain pub, however the hotel area is in desperate need of renovation. The room and furniture is very old fashioned and showing signs of wear and tear, with our desk area having some of the lino ripped off the desk at the corner, lots of scuffs and scrapes on the walls and in the bathroom, the toilet flush didn’t brim me with confidence and was very weak! The sink taps struggled a bit with the hot water request, the shower however was excellent! Though the whole shower/bathroom needs some TLC in general. The window had a curtain and no netting so you either had to have it open and facing on to the car park (no privacy) or closed the whole time, so there wasn’t much natural light in the room. The lock on the door was stiff and we nearly got stuck in there, luckily managed to get it open. It’s a good idea to have manual locks on doors rather than most hotels that use electric card keys, as in the event of loss of power this can cause an issue, but there can be an issue with keys getting lost, locks replaced etc. I would say it was worth the money but sadly on this occasion it wasn’t. It was a room to sleep in near a venue we were attending and that was...
