We randomly googled somewhere to eat local to where we are staying on the IOW, and the White Horse came up, we reserved, and we went. The staff were very friendly and fantastically efficient! We only passed through the bar area but it looked very cosy. The area of the restaurant where were seated was quite large with a pool table that our boys made good use of. The table is far enough from any tables not too cause any offence to other diners. The menu has got something in it for everybody. I had stuffed potato skins with onion and cheese to start, which was huge and could/should have been a main. Followed by chicken, cheese and chorizo with another baked potato (I didn't really think that one through!). It was FANTASTIC! And FANTASTICALLY huge!! The portion sizes are what you would call proper big, even the boys 'kids' meals were big and adult sized. Saying that though the size of the portions didn't effect the quality of the taste of the food. We won't get a chance to get back there this holiday, but we will definitely visit next time we come to the IOW.
Many thanks to the staff at the...
Read moreI had the pleasure of frequenting this pub during my stay on the Isle of Wight. It is by far my favorite pub in the whole of the UK. There were fun events and live music that engaged people with each other. The food was easily the best food ( not just pub food) I had during my stay in the UK.
I had the pleasure of tasting most things on the menu. Treat yourself and go for the specials. I wasn't disappointed by a single meal. The steak and ale pie is a must here!
The most endearing part of the White Horse Inn are the people that are frequently found there. The owner, the bartenders, the staff and the local community created a welcome environment that is truly the heartbeat of the pub. If you meet a surly man at the bar who has strong opinions about what you should be drinking (and everything else) that's David, and he's not wrong.
The White Horse Inn is the quintessential pub experience everyone visiting the UK should have. I'm lucky I found this gem tucked away in a humble part of the Isle of Wight. I cannot wait...
Read moreWe had rented a cottage in the village and decided to try the White Horse, despite some of the reviews. The pub is situated on the main road through the village with ample parking on the car park. It also has a lawned area with seating provided. On entering the pub we were greeted by very friendly staff and shown to a table. There was a good selection of food on both the menu and specials board, to cover all tastes. The pub was busy, had a good atmosphere and there were plenty of places to sit. The decor was quirky and in keeping with the age of the pub. Our food was served by a friendly waitress. It was well presented and tasted delicious. We enjoyed our evening so much, we returned again twice that week. The final night we booked the Seafood Platter, which was exceptional and definitely could be shared by 3 or 4 people. A must if you love fish. I cannot fault this pub at all. The staff are warm and very friendly. By the end of the week you felt like a local. We will...
