Arrived as a walk-in on a very quiet evening, and was told that service would start at 5 for food. We ordered drinks and the fruit trays were in need of a change, as the fruit was gone off and manky and hadn’t been swapped for fresh fruit. Very kindly, the bartender bought me over the fruit. We waited about 30 minutes to have an order taken from us, and we ordered the charcuterie board, fish & chips, and the chicken Milanese. The charcuterie board was lovely, the olives weren’t fresh however so they were very mushy and not enjoyable, the rest was delightful. When it came to eating starters, we could smell a really strong fish odour that took out the whole bar. The presentation of the mains was lovely, the Milanese looked gorgeous. The fish batter was a really odd, pastel-yellow colour and the veg was not fresh whatsoever, the cucumber was actually chewy. The chicken was so dry and was almost inedible, while the tomato sauce had no taste at all. The staff made such an effort to accommodate us despite the fact that there was an over-run meeting on, so we didn’t want to cause any other hassle and just paid & left. We both think the restaurant is beautiful, and has lots of potential. It’s a shame about the experience, however it’s clear from other reviews that others do enjoy here. Another note is that you should be more discrete about how you’re supplying your meat, as going to the car park & watching staff take meat out of the boot of an unrefrigerated car is not ideal, gave us quite the stomach...
Read moreEarly evening visit after a walk with granddaughter. Pub empty apart from group of (loudly swearing) men who left soon after. Bar staff friendly and as helpful as he could be. Very irritating music playing too loudly from speaker above table- probably trying to inject some atmosphere into a pub without any! For various reasons had to settle for my 4th choice item on menu- cottage pie and veg. Granddaughter chose sausage and mash and they were able to provide child's portion which was positive. When our meal arrived, it looked okay. But the cottage pie was absolutely disgusting, a thin layer of crisp mash, with what looked like wallpaper glue underneath, sitting on grey water with bits of brownish mince floating in it- I've never seen anything like it before, and hope to never again! I sent this back, and decided to eat at home. My granddaughter ate hers, but the mash was lumpy and the gravy just tasted of salt. Not sure who is doing the cooking, but the food didn't appear to have been cooked by a chef! Drinks only in future- or travel a mile up the road to...
