My wife and I just wanted few days away, nothing wrong with hotel's but they are all the same after a while so we picked this pub. Quiet country location, old oak beams abound, good check in very friendly and efficient. Room is basic but large by bed (Emma) great sleep, wonderful shower, all soft water and your 5 steps from the car park, didn't get disturbed by the customers. Food: Damn good chef, really good menu, good service we haven't had this level of excellence in food for years. Breakfast was very good, proper smoked bacon and good eggs, service was again very good. We did have a little let down with the breakfast on the Sunday but I can't really hold that against them, these things happen and it was sorted out quickly enough. Other than that we'll be back as very restful and enjoyable visit. Prices- very reasonable for both food and drinks, it's a little gem of place. Fresh fillet of Hake in brown shrimp butter sauce with greens and new potatoes. BBQ selection Tempura squid New York burger, pastrami... Slow cooked pork belly with black pudding mash and brown sauce gravy. Tiramisu home made

Sorry guys but you can’t escape a bad review when you just aren’t putting in enough effort. Front of house staff were lovely and the beer fine however, if this is the standard of food you are serving up and charging quite expensive prices for then, I’m afraid you just aren’t going to survive a very competitive market. You must do better. For reference this was supposed to be their signature curry dish, with quote, a kick. My 14 year old could do better. It was putrid. Nothing more than tinned tomatoes, a taste of a few random distant spice combinations and boiled chicken pieces. I also had the pleasure of sampling this with packet rice, part cooked naan bread and a popadom with the strangest aftertaste! Thanks but no thanks! 🤢

Beautiful out of the way Restaurant. I wasnt sure if it was a pub also. Food is absolutely beautiful. Well presented and service excellent. I would highly reccomend a visit. You can get traditional pub food here. But its fresh and not frozen so a better and higher standard altogether. Charges were very reasonable for the beautiful menu that was presented to us. I was visiting family in Cornwall from Edinburgh. But would definatly visit very regularly if i was local. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, The waiting staff were in my opinion very professional and well trained.

Went for a Sunday roast with my family which wasn’t ever so great, the food was ok but nothing remarkable and the service was pretty slow which we expected given that it was a busy Sunday. I wouldn’t have bothered to write a review at all but at the end of our meal the woman who I presume was the manager approached our table to discuss some drinks that we wanted to cancel as they hadn’t arrived by the time we all finished eating. It wasn’t a big problem but seeing as we didn’t receive the drinks we weren’t about to pay for them. The manager immediately got cagey and berated us with excuse after excuse about how they were busy. ||Obviously being busy wasn’t the problem here, after all I’ve worked in a pub restaurant beside Twickenham stadium on a rugby day which is extremely busy but when a customer complains about speed of service I know better than to start a rant. |She clearly was not ready to listen to our thoughts and was only talking to us to vent at us…||It’s truly a shame because we were prepared to simply pay and leave before she approached us. We weren’t aggressive or rude in any way but her response was quite nasty and condescending. ||Two stars however as the other female members of staff were lovely. ||Having seen the previous responses from the pub to poor online reviews I expect to get a similarly spiteful one after I post this. Honestly this woman was the least friendly person I’ve ever met in the...

What a shame. We looked forward to a wedding anniversary meal but felt ignored from the outset. We had pre booked and when we arrive we were shown to a little table in a window alcove in the bar. Table had to be moved to sit down. Paint flaking off walls. Bar stools ripped. Not good but ok we can look past that. Shown a very limited menus which had nothing to do with the online advertising. Ok well I guess there’s something here we could order so we’ll just go with it. We ordered the prawn cocktail to start. OMG how can this be this bad. Very small Tesco value prawns a bit of cut up lettuce and a dry slice of bread. What for £8 mmmmmm. Ok maybe the mains would be better. My husband had pie and mash and I had a steak. Again rubbish. My husbands mash was like rubber, clearly not greasy and resembling instant smash from the eighties. His gravy was like water. My steak was no better. Touch chewy and the pepper corn sauce again like thin runny water. By this time we’d had enough. No point ordering desert. What a complete waste of money and the worst wedding anniversary ever. Will we be going back. Hell no. Our local chippy is 100% better than this place. Please please please don’t wast your money. I don’t like leaving negative reviews as it damages the business but on this occasion I feel I must warn people before they spend their hard...

We've been here plenty of times before but not since the new ownership. We won't be coming back I'm afraid. We arrived at 7.30 yesterday evening and although there were two staff serving and only a couple of people waiting, it took about 10 minutes to get a drink at the bar. Once we had our drinks we asked the bar staff for a menu as we intended to order food. When my husband returned to the bar 5 minutes later to order the food, he was told that the kitchen was closed (by now it was 7.45pm and the website states that food is available until 8.30pm). The couple who were sharing our (dirty-not cleared from the previous people) table were angrier than we were, having had the same experience except as they had asked for a menu at the bar and been given one, bought drinks and not even sat down before asking to order food to be told that the kitchen is closed. Neither us got any apology or any recognition that this was out of the ordinary, and it was even weirder given that whilst my husband was waiting at the bar, another member of staff was taking a food order from the table directly behind me. No idea what was going on, but won't be going back to find out. Ended up getting a takeaway from La Parilla in Callington, which was very nice and that will be first...
