We booked the Wolds Inn as a group of friends to celebrate a 60th birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted with an extremely lukewarm welcome from whom I presume was the landlady who just pointed at two tables and said that one or that one……..not a good start. A young waiter took our order, who was pleasant enough. We waited a long time for the food and when it came out we realized why. Two of the party had ordered veggie lasagna and I have never seen such an inedible dish in my life. The top was so charcoaled, black and cracked, we just stared in disbelief. When we asked for these to be replaced the waiter did not look at all surprised, as if he had been expecting our response but, he did oblige. The rest of the food eventually came out and we were all disappointed with the very small portions given the price. The only item of any substance was the haddock and chips, but the other dishes should have been served with additional vegetables as they were lost on the plate. The haddock and chips was shared with another member of our party as she was still hungry. When we came to pay we stood at the bar and waited……..and waited. I’m sure had we started to walk out then the staff would have sprung into action. A gentleman came behind the bar, walked straight past us and muttered that there’s never any staff when you need them and walked off! He was clearly the landlord so why could he not have attended to us??? When the young waiter eventually came behind the bar he was abruptly interrupted by the landlady who took over and whose rude manner frankly left us all stood open mouthed. If you require a friendly welcome, good service, value for money and quality food then I suggest you give this place a miss and go elsewhere. Manners...
Read moreA much improved pub. Grub was tasty - and service was quick and friendly. Prices were reasonable. My only issue is they haven't been operating for very long so they are still playing it safe with the menu. For me the balance between familiary and novelty was firmly leaning towards familiar.
I had halloumi fried and scampi and I was pleased the scampi came in a basket. The rest of the table had your traditional pub classics. Your hunters chicken, steaks, burgers. Bangers and mash.
Not at all dated, but I am the kind of patron that would go straight for the most unusual thing in the menu. And I don't feel like I was accommodated for - I don't remember their being a specials board - so maybe I am wrong.
Was a good, comfy and quiet experience and will come again. I feel the balance between fat, protein and carbs was weighed towards fat, and carbs - so I hope next time to see some more protein and some more experimental dishes...
Read moreA family Sunday lunch. 3 courses for £20. You can can We had booked the week before and on arrival, very early afternoon, the pub was full, I certainly didn't see any free tables! Tables were separated by perspex screens and both food and drinks are table service only but plenty of staff who were obviously very busy. Traditional food with a good variety of starters prawn cocktail, pâté, scampi to name a few. Then the mains, beef, lamb, turkey all with vegs 2 large home made yorky puds and gravy. Plenty of very tasty meat! Desserts? We had Chocolate brownie sundaes, a banoffee pavlova and Bailey's and honeycomb ice-cream. My son in law said it's the best meal he's had in a long time and we all agreed. Want an excellent Traditional Sunday lunch out? Look no further, but make sure that you...
