We arrived here without booking as it was pretty empty. Although we did arrive at lunch time. After about 10 minutes the member of staff and his manager seated us at a small table near the park door. It was lovely. Plenty of people came in after that so we thought ahh the food must be good. I ordered the smothered chicken burger, Fries and coleslaw my daughter thr kids margarita pizza with corn on the cob and chips and my friend the smothered chicken. We waited around half an hour for the food to arrive which I don't mind if its freshly cooked to order but we were the only ones in. It arrived and we were looking forward to it. I took one bite and my chicken was overcooked, although it was plenty flavoursome. It wasn't visually appealing though. My daughter gagged on her pizza as it was just tomato puree and my friend, well she just eats anything 🤣 we spoke to a member of staff about my daughters pizza and she took it back to the kitchen for thr chefs to put a bit more cheese on. They made a fresh one with minimal tomato puree on and plenty cheese which she was so happy about. Its thr little things that make it more pleasant. We would go back as its a nice area and service was good although I think I will be changing my mind on a smothered chicken burger. There was also no prices on the menu at all which we found quite strange.

This restuarant is in a prime location facing the QE2 Lake which has an excellent circular woodland footpath perfect for building up an appetitie ready for a meal. Since my last visit they have removed the little used outside childrens play area and have expanded the outside seating ready for the sunny weather to arrive. This area is also suitable for customers with dogs!! The seating inside is good and well laid out, there is also a free soft play area for smaller children and premier football on TV at the other end of the restaurant for the bigger children. There is a fairly good selection of food and drink on the menu which is reasonably priced especially if you subscribe to the Cookhouse & Pub member scheme (we got 40% of the price of all main meals). I would say that the food is good rather than exceptional but is reasonable value for money. Table service is hit and miss its therefore best if you order yourself at the bar, I found all the staff both friendly and helpful. All in all its worth a visit especially if you combine the meal with a walk around the lake (takes around an hour) or a visit to the Woodhorn Colliery Museum at the other end of the lake (20 mintues there and back).

Very disappointed the soft play area left a lot to be desired. It's not a patch on what it used to be. Although the older children had a better area to play in the toddler section literally had two cylinders and a triangle to roll around the floor and a whale your kids can sit on. All the claw machines were turned off and we had to go to buy a ball for our son to play with. So disappointed as it used to be amazing with ball pits and everything. We were there about an hour and no staff came in to check even though there were other children playing too. Toy boxes had been left on the older children's play area which could have resulted in a fall. I would expect there to be some kind of monitoring to make sure areas were clear when children are running around. We certainly won't be taking our child back as I felt his first experience was a real let down

after our visit today as we were very disappointed. I booked a table online and arrived early but were seated straight away. The member of staff who seated us was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately that is the only positive thing I have to say about our visit. We left our table to collect breakfast. There were no coffee cups or glasses so we weren't able to get any drink. We went to get our food in the hope that glasses and cups would arrive. The breakfast buffet was very limited. No black pudding at all and we were told a 10 minute wait for eggs......No vegetarian bacon or sausages available. We took what was available and my partner took the kids back to the table while I waited for eggs, cups and glasses. After about 5 minutes I managed to find a member of staff and ask for glasses. A few minutes later they arrived and the juice was empty......another 5 minutes and there were 8 eggs. I took one for each of the kids but not for me or my partner as there were several other people stood waiting. I took the eggs to the table where my family were almost done eating and my breakfast was cold. We still had no drinks so I went back again and managed to get some juice but still no cups for hot drinks and still no black pudding. I gave up and sat down to eat my breakfast which was now stone cold. While we were trying to get our drinks and food, the one member of staff who seemed to be the only one there, seated numerous other families despite there being very little food or drink available. At £10 a person for breakfast we didn't expect luxury but we did expect to be able to at least give our kids juice with there breakfast and a coffee which we weren't able to get in the 40 minutes we were there. Very disappointing service. I would like to also mention that the gentleman who booked us in was running around and didn't stop the whole time we were there. I'm sure he did the very best he could but he seemed to be doing everything himself. Worst experience of breakfast out...

We stayed the night at the adjoining Premier Inn Ashington and booked the meal deal (main meal and breakfast) when we booked our room. We arrived for our evening meal at our allotted time (booked via the Premier Inn when checking in) and was seated straight away at a clean table. We were asked if we had a meal deal before and was explained that it was extra to upgrade to steaks or premium beers/spirits which wasn't a problem for us. The price and options for the Children's menu was great...three courses for £4.99 with lots of choice. Would have been nice to have had childrens cutlery but wasn't the end of the world. There was full table service and the staff were really friendly and very attentive.

We arrived for breakfast the next day at our allotted time (again, booked when we checked in), there was a small queue but we quickly went through...our three year old managed to wait :-) Our hot drink orders were taken as our names were checked off the list and taken to our seats, again at a clean table. Our breakfast orders were taken (all you can eat full english) and orders pancakes abd fruit for our little boy. The staff were great with him and offered him lots of things so he could try them. This would usually have been a buffett style breakfast but it is now table service. I must admit, it was better for if so we could relax without us having to juggle plates across the dining room.

We enjoyed our experience here and the warm, welcoming atmosphere from the staff, on our last day of our trip (we stayed in a holiday home not too far for the rest of the stay) we came back for breakfast!

Thank you so much for making our trip that little bit more special and make a Mum that's needed a break, feel relaxed.

We would definately...

This Bar/Restaurant is located inside of a country park. The reason we came here in the first place was because it stated that it was dog friendly.

So we decided to take the dogs for a walk and then get some food before heading home.

As you walk in there is a sign with rules for you and your dog. 1- dogs must be kept on a lead at all times 2- excessive barking and you’ll be asked to leave. In addition you can only sit on tables that have the “this is a dog friendly table”. These tables are only found in the bar and there is 5 (2x 4 seats, 2x 2 seats and 2 x 3 stool tables) when we arrived (6 people and 3 dogs) all of the dog friendly tables were taken and none of the people at these tables had dogs, in the same space there was 5 other tables that weren’t dog friendly, but we couldn’t sit in these and the staff said they weren’t able to direct people without dogs to the none dog friendly tables.

We had to move outside, which usually we would prefer but within seconds of being outside we were swarmed by wasps. Honestly this isn’t hyperbolic… there was easily 50 wasps on our drinks, on us and around the dogs. We then had to move inside whilst we finished our drinks just to avoid getting stung.

Also important note, if you are a solo dog walker you aren’t able to use the toilets because they are in the none dog friendly section of the bar and you can’t walk through with your dog. So you have to get a member of staff to look after your dog while you use the toilet.

We did end up leaving and getting fish and chips in Newbiggin but honestly it isn’t...
