Good selection of gins and wines and my husband said the beer was well kept. Staff all well trained and friendly. Excellent meal in dining room with a nice buzz. Music sufficiently low as to be unobtrusive but provided just the right level of background noise. Terrific and unusual menu. Nice to see mackerel available served with pickled cauliflower and beetroot with horseradish creme fraiche. To bring it down to earth the chips were top quality, crisp and plentiful. I had salt aged pork chop which was massive with good crunchy crackling. It came with Apple and black pudding mash and cabbage sauteed in pistachio butter. The mash was less tasty than I'd expected but the cabbage was fabulous. The portions were very substantial and I was glad we hadn't had a starter . We shared roasted fruits which were delicious. Again a real plate full. Really good quality coffee as well. Not cheap, definately a gastro pub but well worth a visit. They also have a garden bar that serves wood fired pizzas. We tried these last time we went and I would highly recommend...
Read moreI have been going here for years now and it never fails to disappoint. The place itself is cosy but not cramped. They have a good selection of ales on tap and other drinks.
The choices on the menu are always varied but they through a few classics in there just for good measure. The chips are to die for, so tasty, and they come in a cute little clay pot to keep them toasty throughout the main course!
They are always happy to adapt where they can, and always willing to help. The service can sometimes be a little slow but the food is so good you hardly notice.
I have to say my favourite is always the desserts, the homemade ice creams are so delicious and I never know what to choose as you can have a choice of 4 and I tend to end up wanting to try all of 10 of them!
Well worth a visit for a lunch as well, their lunch menu is excellent...
Read moreWe needed a break and turned off the A64 towards Bilborough Services, when we saw a board advertising Ye Old Sun Inn at Colton, just over a mile away. Following the sign was the best decision we could have made!
The pub is extremely welcoming. It has excellent Covid-19 safety precautions, including a basket with masks at the bar, an effective one-way-system, a well-explained process for using the toilets, and proper ventilation.
The food was out of this world. All of us said we had never had chips as good as theirs anywhere before. It’s worth coming back for those alone! The fish platter is to die for, the burgers are amazing, the pie truly delicious. And everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming.
If we’re ever near there again, we will make any detour it takes to...
