We came across this pub by chance, what a find!! A beautiful 18th century thatched building with a very well kept garden with plenty of sun and room for lunch. We arrived at about 12.30, with no cars in the car park which made us slightly sceptical! Upon entering we were greeted with a lovely smile from the chap behind the bar ( who we found out later was the landlord) offered me one of the best tasting local beers I have had the pleasure of tasting. My wife and daughter had lemonades with plenty of life. We asked if we could eat outside and the answer as I thought coming from such a welcoming establishment was of course, no problem .
My wife ordered off the bar menu with scampi and I had the confit lamb. Both meals altough completely different, were of exactly the same excellent standard and superb value for money. We had an exceptional experience and just wish we lived closer. I thoroughly recommend the Yew Tree at Odstock, its set in a beauiful village, serves magnificent food and ales and the service is outstanding. Well done to you...
Read moreWe sat in the garden on a sunny Sunday lunchtime. It was quite busy, however there seemed to have enough front of house staff. We waited 40 minutes for a lasagne, burger and 2 scampies. We were not told their was a wait when we ordered. We then ordered 2 desserts, the man behinfd the bar went into the kitchen, so we stood there thinking he would bring them out. He didn't, then told us to sit down. We did and waited a further 30 minutes. Waiting staff were coming.out and not knowing where the food was going to. They seemed to be getting a bit frazzled. One older lady was quite ride to a family who had waited over an hour, they asked how long the food word be and she barked did you book cos we we are really busy with bookings then said have you got your cutlery? My family raved about the yew tree, however due to the poor organization and lack of attentiveness of the staff I will...
Read moreMy goodness what an amazing place. We are three couples that have been friends for decades but are now spread wide across southern England, so when we meet up, we look for interesting places roughly equidistant from us all, this meeting being at the YewTree just outside Salisbury. This is a real thatched-roofed, wood-beamed old building, where you're reminded of its age when you bump your head on the (cushioned thankfully) beam on your way to the bar if you forget. It has a diverse menu and even my old mate who doesn't do vegetables or anything adventurous was tempted into trying something new. Six plates of loveliness appeared and all were scoffed with gusto, resulting in six clean plates, we'll apart from my mate who couldn't be persuaded to try the hummus, so puddings were a no-brainer and again, there was a differing selection. Food great, surroundings...
