UPDATE***Great place, nice decor, clean & very relaxed, wonderful bar person, very smiley & pleasant. Beer fairly priced for area (let you know about spirits later) Will come here to try food instead of up road at pub for Premier Inn Waltham Abbey. spirits very cheap, compared to up the road at the pub/restaurant next to the Premier Inn hotel, I have also had food here now, very helpful bar staff came and took my order (think you're supposed to order at the bar) Patè to start, which was huge with two whole slices of toast, butter & funny stuff more akin to branston pickle than 'caramelised onion chutney' ordered the 8oz sirloin, salad & Jacket for main course which came cooked as specified (med) very tasty, nice char-grilled flavour, jacket ok but I like mine crispy on the outside salad fresh and nicely dressed with some French dressing, half tomato generously seasoned with black pepper & onion rings crispy :)

After being unable to find a pub that could accommodate 21 of us, we found this amazing pub. Even though it was only a few hours before, Zara was extremely helpful in fitting our scout Group in for meals and drinks. On arrival Amelia made our experience so simple and efficient, taking drinks and food orders with ease and making what could have been a stressful situation very enjoyable. The food arrived quickly and was hot, correct and amazingly good, (especially given we had 12 explorer Scouts and 9 adult leaders all ordering mains, deserts and drinks). This is an amazing country style pub with great food, amazing staff and a fantastic interior / atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Really nice spacious friendly pub with a lot of outdoor dining and drinking space. We went in for the Sunday carvery, we didn't realise it was a carvery so it was a welcome surprise We were welcomed in by one of the servers, Amber. Great smiley welcome, she was attentive and friendly and seated us without a booking. The carvery was great, definitely no room for dessert, which was a shame because the dessert menu was tempting. It was just over £30 for 2 roasts and 2 pints of soft drinks, Bargain we thought. If we are in the area again we will definitely come back. It's just 5 mins from the forest but much less packed than the forest pubs and free plentiful parking too

We came here today for a roast. We stood at the sign where we were told to wait and stood for around five minutes as waiters and waitresses waddled past us. We then eventually got seated. I asked if there was a carvery today and the reply was yes. We then sat for fifteen minutes without anyone coming to offer us any drinks etc or take our orders. I tried to get the attention of the staff but failed so went to the man at a till and asked if the carvery was ok to go to and where it was. He said "Yeh over there mate" and proceeded to walk away as though dealing with customers was not his role within the business. I went up and got my meal and sat down again, still waiting to order drinks. This is when I noticed the lack of cutlery on the table so had to catch the eye of a passing waitress and ask for some. Eventually she brought some back and we could tuck into our roast dinner. We finished our meal and then gave up on carrying on with desert as had nothing to wash it down with. I tried to get a member of staff's attention again to ask for the bill but failed miserably. I went to the bar were the man behind moped over the till as though it was supporting his body from falling to the ground with boredom. I asked him for the bill and he said there was nothing against our table. Yes I replied, there wouldn't be as no one came and took any orders. He was a little amused by this as some emotion creeped into his face. I then asked if I could pay for the two roasts we ate and made a sharp exit. I will never return here as it was so awful this time I could not...

Been coming here for years and never had a problem however the last two times there’s been a member of staff who’s particularly rude.

Final straw where I can’t believe how she acted was when we arrived as a family of four , 3 adults one child who just finished playing sport and was eating a roll (granted not purchased from the pub ) but we stoped for drink and snacks for the adults and as a child with special dietary requirements never had this questioned before . Firstly rudely infront of him , she shouted out he could have done a better job of hiding that ! Can’t have that in here . So I apologised and said oh we are sitting outside just come in to order I’ll make him go outside , he’s got allergies just easier to make him stuff up myself . She replies rudely again , well what’s he allergies and we do stuff here ! Ok well he’s got a 1/4 roll left could we just order for us and drinks please ? . Then said actually no I’m not serving you ! I mean what kind of attitude is that for a 12 year old kid eating a roll . Your going to turn away business and act in that manner and tone for a roll !! . I can not believe the way she acted . We walked out and went next door to the Bakers Arms . Had no issues there at all and that will now be our new go to pub . Really poor treating a child like that , hope it made you feel more adequate at your job throwing your weight around over a rhea of eaten roll !...

The complete visit and experience was pretty shambolic. I booked the table at 18.12pm on Friday the 21st January for a Sunday carvery on the 23rd January. The five of us arrived dead on time to be informed there was no table booked in my name, after several ridiculous suggestions such as "are you sure you at the correct Plough" we were finally told we could have a table. 40 minutes later we were still waiting for the menu's, cutlery and condiments. Finally, 50 minutes after arriving we were invited to go to the carvery. To be fair the food was actually fairly good. Main course over we were given the desert menu's and each chose our desert although one of us wanted an Eton Mess but was told the restaurant couldn't get any strawberries, I am pretty certain that a huge great supermarket only 1 mile away would have had enough strawberries to make fifty Eton Mess, almost 25 minutes later the deserts finally arrived and once again were fairly good. All of this and the restaurant was far from packed. In summary, food is OK but attention to detail and service are sadly lacking. I would not visit again or recommend the...
