This turned out to be a lovely lunch with my in laws. I say this because our welcome was not that great. Once we'd arrived and parked the car we headed towards the outside dining marquee. As we approached I was asked if I'd reserved a table and with this he alerted a lady who I presumed was the manager. Our name was taken and we was pointed to a rickety park bench table outside of the dining area. When we questioned this we were told in an abrupt manner that they were fully booked and this was our table. We took our seats but felt we wouldn't be able to enjoy our lunch sitting here. Also at this time which was 12.30 pm the dining area was empty. We then approached someone who looked like he was in charge of reservations and once he'd looked at the bookings offered us a table that had to be returned by 3 pm. We said thank you that's perfect and headed into the dining area. I am happy to say that this was the only downside to the day as the rest of the staff couldn't have been more pleasant and polite along with enjoying some delightful pub grub. So once we were comfortable we looked at the very extensive menu that had a large selection of starters , mains & desserts. We started with a nice bottle of french rose wine and then placed our orders. Starters We chose the Chicken Liver Pate , Prawn & smashed Avocado Cocktail , Smoked Mackerel Pate & Sticky Chicken on Asian Slaw. We all thought the starters were perfectly cooked , nicely presented and tasted delicious. Mains Now onto our mains where we chose the Blue Boar Cheeseburger , Fish & Chips , Slow Cooked Jack Daniels Pork Ribs & Cajun Chicken Burger plus a side order of onion rings. The mains were a generous size and once again the food nicely cooked so no complaints here from anyone. All the time being asked by the staff if everything was ok and if we did need anything to just ask. Desserts We then finished with some good old fashioned pub desserts of Homemade Jam Roly Poly , Sticky Toffee Pudding & Chef's Banoffee Mess and to say the were all fantastic would be an understatement. This brought to and end a fabulous lunch where the food and service was excellent. Just a shame about the beginning but definitely the rest of the young team and the food more than made up for it. So yes I would recommend booking a table and I'll hopefully look to return when like everywhere else the restaurant is fully open

Stayed two nights as attending a wedding. Check in they couldn't find the key. Eventually led up to room. Up some steep steps and no offer to help with our bags .The biggest room we were being given said the young girl. The room on first look was a good size. Big double bed. Table. Wardrobe. Chairs. Kettle. Tea and coffee and biscuits. Ensuite with shower and stand alone bath. Location was 10 minutes away from wedding venue. Upon closer inspection the room was not cleaned to a high standard. Carpet could do with a proper clean. Dead flies on outside rim of shower and sink. Kettle could do with regular descaling. But I'd say 3 star standard. The windows are absolutely ridiculous. Paper thin. Difficult to open or close as they wobble like they are going to fall out. Also the window ledge had debris and milk cartons from room on. Not a good look. But mainly it's the noise. The place is on a main road and if you want any chance of sleeping take earplugs. Absolutely horrendous noise all night. Roaring motorbikes like they were in the room with you. And the light from outside comes into the room because of the blinds. Get double glazing for goodness sake The bed was large and comfy but please what's with all the cushions. They make it feel grimy and most people like me throw them off and on floor. Ugh. We used tea making facilities. Only two tiny bottles of water. Not good enough. We filled kettle from sink but could only fill it up halfway because of positioning of tap. Ridiculous again. The noise from other rooms is unreal. Sneezing. Yawning and one guest constantly making a strange grunting sound and banging around. Again you will not get a peaceful moment here. The floor creaks and moves, literally, when you walk on it. I would say it's a 3 star JUST. On check out no one to thank you for your stay. Just put your key in a box and off you go. Very unpersonanable. Also remember you are above a pub In summary Good size room Noisy Adequate cleaning but needs improving Supply more water Appreciated the fan as hot days and night and couldn't have windows open because of noise No personal touch Location good for our purposes Would not visit again

I’ll admit, I’m a little bit confused after my dinner here tonight. My partner and I booked the blue boar with high expectations after hearing other family member reviews of the place. We had been told that the food was excellent and the staff were very friendly so I’m hoping that tonight was just a mishap for the restaurant. It started off when we walked in through the pub entrance. Little to no social distancing could be seen here. Large gatherings of loud tables which were queuing and standing chatting at the bar - which from my understanding is currently not allowed. We were sat at what I believe is table three in the corner of the restaurant. The restaurant is immaculate. Very well cleaned and presented. Tables well distanced. Our waitress, Charlotte, was very polite. That is rather unfortunately where my praises end. Two young waitresses were prancing around with no PPE, and their hair DOWN. Working in a restaurant myself I understand PPE can be hard wearing for a whole shift but having your hair down is completely unacceptable around food. Especially when touching plates etc. One of these girls even wiped their nose on their sleeve before approaching a table. It made me personally feel quite uneasy. Onto the food itself. Starter of pate was tasty but poorly presented as you can see the plate wasn’t given a wipe over before being sent from the kitchen. Chefs finger prints could be seen on the plate. The main was the “king prawn linguine” - which to be fair had a lot of prawns in it. But the pasta was inedible. The white wine sauce just tasted like butter and chilli - pasta literally floated in it. ate the prawns and left the rest. Finally, the all forbidden plastic straws. I won’t even start that argument. For £40 I wouldn’t say I was angry. Just disappointed that it didn’t live up to expectations. I won’t be returning.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The New Boar in Abridge, Essex, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. This charming establishment offers a warm and inviting ambiance, coupled with a delectable menu that is sure to please even the most discerning food lovers.

To start our meal, my companions and I decided to share a serving of paella. From the very first bite, it was evident that the chefs at The New Boar take great pride in their culinary creations. The paella was bursting with flavor, with perfectly cooked rice, tender pieces of meat, and an exquisite blend of spices. It was a true delight for the taste buds, and we couldn't help but savor every mouthful.

Additionally, some members of our party opted to share the tomahawk steak, and they were not disappointed. The tomahawk, cooked to perfection, was a sight to behold. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and full of rich flavors. The portion size was generous, allowing everyone to savor a hearty serving. It was a carnivore's dream come true, and the unanimous praise from my companions spoke volumes about the quality of the dish.

Apart from the outstanding food, the service at The New Boar was also commendable. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than willing to provide recommendations and answer any questions we had, ensuring that our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable.

The ambiance of The New Boar further enhanced our visit. The restaurant boasts a stylish yet cozy interior, with tasteful decor and comfortable seating arrangements. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, allowing for an enjoyable and intimate dining experience.

In conclusion, I highly recommend The New Boar in Abridge, Essex, for an exceptional dining experience. Whether you choose to indulge in their scrumptious paella or savor their mouthwatering tomahawk steak, you're in for a treat. The combination of outstanding food, attentive service, and inviting ambiance makes The New Boar a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a memorable...
