I was with the baby shower party as mentioned in the review by Angela Oliver a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't normally write a negative review without speaking to the proprietor first and chose not to complain at the time as it was a happy occasion and i didnt want to upset the mother to be. However, I did agree with Angela and I found your reply very dismissive, therefore, sadly, I feel I should respond. There were 24 people invited to the event, each paid £15. Two of those people are 10 years old and 2 others didn't turn up. There was also a £50 charge to hire the place for 2 hours! Therefore you received £410 and that didn't even include drinks so you made money there also. When we arrived nothing was set up and we were requested to wait outside while you prepared. The food came out and to be fair, looked OK. We were given 2 separate plates for dietary requirements. No one was able to put much on their plate as they were so small however, like Angela, when I got to the table there was nothing left for me to eat. The fries you mention, 2 tiny bowels between 24 people! No variety of sandwich filling, either meat or cheese. A couple of bowls of crisps, a few crackers and cheese. Like Angela and several other people around me, I ended up with 1 quarter of a sandwich, a few crisps and half a scone. It was me that asked for some more cheese sandwiches and I can honestly say, I was a little stunned when you returned with literally 1 sandwich cut into 4 pieces. I shared that with 3 other people around me! Even the kids in the party asked if they could go to Macdonalds on the way home cos they were still hungry!!! We all noticed as well, precisely 2 hours after we arrived, the lady behind the bar kept looking at her watch and making it quite obvious it was time to leave. In conclusion, and taking on board other people's experiences/reviews, Platta seems nice for an ordinary brunch/lunch however would definitely not recommend for a function. You will not get your...
Read moreI went to Platta for a drink and something to eat with friends today. We all have little ones, and every time I have been before, I’ve always felt welcome to have my child present. Platta has always seemed on the ‘pricey’ side, but the reception and feel of luxury and comfort had seemed worth it for a treat. What a shame that my experience today left a lot to be desired.
Firstly, the menu seems to have shrunk in terms of options, and the prices have rocketed. Myself and one of my friends felt it necessary to order from the children’s menu, as the prices of anything on the main menu were out of our range. In all fairness, the child’s portion sizes were spot on for us - we certainly weren’t left hungry.
It was pretty shocking that one of the staff felt it necessary to come and collect several plates and cups from our table before we’d all even finished - without so much as checking in. Next, the staff member brought our bill to us, completely unrequested. My friend was only halfway through her drink at this point, but she felt too uncomfortable to finish it. There was no notification that the table was required, and the place itself wasn’t busy at all. As mothers of young children, it is usually a real treat for us to go for lunch or a coffee. This time, we were made to feel shoved out and as though we had outstayed our welcome.
Another one of my friends had reported a terrible experience recently at Platta, but I decided to overlook their advice and give it another chance. However, this has assured me that the essence of the place has changed to a point where I no longer...
Read moreI celebrated my 40th birthday at Platta and could not be happier to have chosen here.
The venue is fabulously decorated, the food was incredible and my birthday cake was simply amazing!
The staff are wonderful - I arranged everything with Simon and from the moment I walked in, knew that my event would be in safe hands.
I actually booked my event without sampling anything at that point, but since went in and have had very nice breakfasts, hot sandwiches and brownies (they are so nice - you must try them!).
Everyone said how flavourful the food was, how much there was and what a nice variety of home (bistro!) made food was on offer. There was plenty of food and no one went home hungry!
Many of my guests said they would be returning for food, drinks and also booking events there too as they were so impressed.
Platta is a fabulous venue. The staff friendly, professional and could not do enough to ensure my celebration went how I would like. I honestly cannot recommend Platta enough.
I must give a special mention to Simon again for making my birthday cake (lemon and white chocolate!). It was so tasty - don't hesitate for him to make yours! (The macarons on my cake were from 'Macaron marlo' and were also amazing!)
This is definitely somewhere to come for breakfast, light bite or even a celebration. I'm already thinking about when I...
