It pains me to say, but this pub is now awful, a shadow of its former self as a Brewers Fayer with Fun Factory.
M and B have done their usual and destroyed a good business by serving cheap frozen food and running the place into the ground, all in the name of profit. I don't even understand the stupidity of the brand? Who ever thought putting Pizza with a carvery was a remotely good idea wants to have there head examined? Really? Italian, next to traditional British Roast? Idiotic....
Anyway,
Food: The carvery is of very poor quality with cheap cuts of meat , the vegetables are all frozen. The Roast potatoes were ok though but the mash is frozen pre made rubbish.... it's not worth a fiver let alone the £8.99 I paid.. ps. The Beef is like chewing on an old boot.... Compared to other pubs in the locality it's very poor.
Pizzas : Didn't bother , because it's a ridiculous idea, but they looked rubbish anyway. Again, compared to other Pubs in the locality which do them far better..
Pub: Grubby, unclean in general. The inside was dirty and poorly presented, the windows were rotten with paint peeling, the entrance had rotten wood banisters and peeling paint. Grubby carpets and a sound system inside from the 1990's...backs of seats wripped and upholstery worn. Outside was again a shadow of what was on offer around the year 2000. Run down, Grubby, the old Fun Factory for kids was boarded up, looking like and old wearhouse with peeling paint etc... they obviously don't pay for gardners anymore, no flowers, no gardening and everything over grown and broken. This space used to offer an extensive indoor and outdoor play area with electric orbiters, and a crazy golf course and used to host amazing Birthday Party's for Children, 4 a day infact at the weekends. Now it's just awful to look at with nothing to offer at all....
I stopped going to this pub shortly after M and B took over back in around 2006 and decided to return today in the hope that it had improved, sad to report it's got worse than I ever expected. Shame on you M&B
Cheap poor food, and a wreck of a pub.
Honestly is so upsetting..... 1 out of 10.
Someone decent please buy it , refurb it and start again! Ditch...

I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt an honest perspective was warranted after visiting Bartlewood Lodge for the first time as part of a group of ten for my wife’s birthday.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat due to the pub's refusal to accommodate my dietary needs. I asked for a Beyond Burger patty with cheddar and mushrooms served in a lettuce wrap (all items already on the menu), along with a side salad — but was told this couldn’t be done. So I had nothing. Very disappointing.
I did have a black Americano, which was extremely weak. As for the meals, they arrived at various times — which, to be fair, we were warned about due to the bar-ordering system. Still, one couple ordered together, and their meals were served nearly 30 minutes apart, which is just not acceptable.
My wife ordered the carvery with the meat-free chicken. She was told it would be brought to the carvery area in about 10 minutes. She waited, but it wasn’t there. After another 10 minutes, still nothing — so she plated up without it. The meat-free chicken arrived around 10 minutes later. She only ate half a piece and said it wasn’t enjoyable. Poor kitchen coordination.
Some others in our group weren’t impressed either — for example, the chicken wings got poor feedback, although that may be down to the chain’s food sourcing rather than the pub itself. One person did enjoy the BBQ Beyond Burger, though visually, it looked like a slab of wet cardboard. A bit of garnish or attention to presentation would help massively.
On the positive side, the carvery itself was decent, and a few other meals were enjoyed. One couple in our group visits regularly and generally like the place. It's a nice venue in a good location with a pleasant atmosphere. But for me — and a few others — it was a let-down due to basic organisational issues and a lack of flexibility.
Would I return? No. If they can’t (or won’t) accommodate something so simple, there’s little point. That said, I wouldn’t discourage others from visiting — everyone’s experience and preferences...
Read moreI have been visiting here for over 14 years now. Over the past few years the food hasn't been as great as it used to be. There aren't many choices on the carvery as competing restauraunts like Toby Carvery and Cherry Tree. The sausages are often over cooked. The same with the breakfast, not many options and the black pudding is always like cardboard. Yesterday there was over an hour wait for food so my daughter didn't have a meal. We were handed a dirty bowl for the ice cream machine, all the sauce bottles were empty for this and we found the lady behind the bar quite rude to us and other customers too. Especially when telling people one of the beers has sold out. The place was far too hot and the windows do not open I a lot of areas and there is no air con. We are often seated next to a window that has no blinds with the sun beaming in causing a glare and us all leaving with a pounding headache. On this occassion we requested we were moved which they did, but the only area available was far too hot. We were however warned of this by the kind lady greeting us at the main entrance. The wacky warehouse out the back of the building should be brought back, what a waste of a building. And also the crazy golf, it was more fun when they had that, they just needed to take more care of it. It is not the favourite family pub it once was anymore. The play area is rubbish to be honest, and aimed at toddlers, rather than the children that are junior school age which is a shame. I think the place needs a lot of TLC and the carvery lady to be a bit more friendly and polite too.
Special mention to Lucy she gets a 5* always running around after everyone and has top customer service. Very hardworking, polite and friendly. And this is seen on every visit! For this reason I will not give less...
