Charlie's — Restaurant in Fenland District

Not fast food, great food!

🍔 The menu at Charlie's presents somewhat of a double edged sword in that it's clear that every item on there has been carefully curated. This presents an issue when having to choose what to eat as everything sounds like a masterpiece. On arrival the food doesn't disappoint, well selected, simple ingredients assembled and presented with obvious care. Fortunately the taste lives up to the appearance. 🧀HIGHLY recommend a side of Mac n cheese if you like that sort of thing. I suspect that my GP would cry if he saw the ingredients (mostly pure, uncut cheese) but thankfully I'm not in the habit of taking him to dinner. 🥦Much like the rest of the menu, the vegetarian options have been carefully thought out and are a genuinely tasty alternative to their meaty counterparts. The "vegetarian buttermilk chicken" burger is recommended. Would like to see more veggie/vegan options and is notably lacking a beef alternative.

⌛ The food took approximately 45 minutes to an hour to arrive after ordering. This really isn't a complaint, more of a public service announcement. I don't think this is the kind of place that you'd want to rush, take some friends and make an evening of it. The chef clearly has a perfectionist streak and wants you to have a great experience and that takes time and I appreciate that.

Overall Charlie's is one of the best burger joints I've visited and certainly the best (I suspect only) in Wisbech. Well worth a travel to visit...

This used to be our #1 place to get a decent burger without having to travel 20+ miles, but in the last 12 months neither me or any family members have been able to book a table or even order a take-out because they're so busy. Last time we tried was Oct '24, an hour after they opened and couldn't get anything. The food has always been top-quality but I guess you need to be placing an order as soon as they open or see if they have any slots available near closing time if you want to try it for yourself. Unfortunately I'm giving up trying and will go elsewhere from now on. Hopefully the business grows enough that they can hire an additional chef or add more...

Great place for a meal and enjoyable evening out. 4 of us came on a Saturday night and we enjoyed a delicious burger dinner and plenty of sides (the variety they do is amazing!). BBQ Dayz, 2x House Burgers and Triple Cheeseburger were all delicious and we could not have eaten another bite - portion sizes are superb.
