A real shame to give this place a low rating but something has changed. Note this is for the pub itself not the pop up food.

We have always loved coming to West Hythe for a dog walk followed by a drink and food at Unit 1. They have always been so friendly, however today we did not feel welcomed at all.

First time bringing our baby (10 weeks old) for a family day out so we had the pram. Found a table and were instantly told by one of the girls that we could not sit there or on most of the tables inside as the pram would be in the way even though it stuck out no more than a normal chair and was tucked right up to the table between 2 chairs. It was suggested we sit outside in the cold where it was raining with my baby! No compassion from the staff at all.

I then swapped my baby for a carrier and took the pram back to the car so we could sit and eat inside. We watched the staff move another family off the same table but then allowed the next family who also had a pram to sit there so that made no sense to us.

We were then packing up our stuff to leave and the same girl was putting all the chairs under the table before we even had time to get all our belongings together and move away from the table. She even moaned when my dog was still attached to a chair as it meant she couldn’t tidy the table but she could see we were trying to settle the baby in his pram again and that we weren’t done yet (glasses still had drink in them). It was like she was trying to kick us out of the pub but there was barely anyone inside at this point.

Such a shame as we used to love this place and the food is incredible. Not sure if we will come back again as not as welcoming or family friendly as they imply. Staff were quite rude and...

I was trying out my new Ordinance Survey map by walking across fields on horrible wet and windy weather when I felt hungry and was yearning for a coffee too. Then I saw a sign for Unit 1. It was perfectly placed for me that day. At first I thought it was going to be hard work to get served, but after a short wait I did get a coffee which was reasonably priced and very good. Then I joined a seperate queue of one other person to order a vegan burger and chips. The chips were excellent but I wasn't offered vinegar which would have made them all the nicer. And the vegan burger turned out to be fried mash potato and hardly worth the £7 I paid for it. One of the bad things about vegan food when out is a lump of vege often sells for as much or more expensive than meat. You don't become vegan to save money, sadly. Anyway it was a mostly positive experience and I expect I'll go back at some point but I won't be ordering the...

So good in so many ways. Mostly staffed from the 3 families that co-own this inclusive pub. There is a real sense of community. Local real ales, craft beers, and lager are always on tap from the two onsite breweries: Hop Fuzz and Docker. Romney beers are 2 stops away on the steam train and Curious Brew from Ashford. Local cider is also available. Food is ever changing because guest chefs use their pop-up kitchen. Thursday is pizza day, £10.50 buys you a large, thin, and crispy base with 4 toppings of your choice. There is plenty of canalside parking, making this a popular destination for families and dog walkers all year round. Winter walkers warm up in front of wood fire with hot chocolate, freshly brewed coffee, or tea. Dogs are well catered for, too, with a water station, biscuit bar, and are welcome inside & out. I am so glad that this pub is cycling distance for me along the...

Loved this place absolutely brilliant! Super friendly staff and a lovely outdoor seating area. Inside was very spacious and cozy too. It's very popular with locals and tourists alike. There's a small "industrial estate" behind and one of the units is a micro brewery (Hop Fuzz) you can sample there produce in Unit 1, actually it'd be rude not too! Thursday's are Pizza night and quite honestly these are some of the best pizzas you will find outside of Italy. Other nights they have a pop up kitchen and the menu is very different but also delicious. If you want to check the menu you'll need to check their web site. In short this place is amazing if you don't visit then you will have missed out on an absolute gem of a place!

We have popped in to get something to eat in this little cafe after visiting Roman ruins and West Hythe Dam on the way back home and I am glad we have done! It was great choice! The chef was very good there! The staff was also very polite, friendly, knowledgeable and professional. It was veriety of burgers, meals and drinks on the menu. We have ordered "Steevo" and "Halloumi" burgers. Our meal was prepared very quick. It was excellent quality and reasonably priced. At the time of our visit, which was around 5:30 pm, it was still pretty busy. There is car park available, just at the back of the cafe, not very big though. The toilets are inside of the cafe. Very happy with our visit and definitely recommend it!
