Best Thyme Cafe & Restaurant — Restaurant in Folkestone and Hythe District

This restaurant that serves Indian street food is different to the normal curry house we are used to it. It's vibrant and trendy, the decor is upbeat and light ....the windowed kitchen where you can see the chef preparing your food is an entertainment by itself. We started our meal with a watermelon and mint drink, very refreshing and presented beautifully. We ordered straight from the main course but were given a complimentary selection of crackers and chutneys, this is meant to depict the changing colours of chameleon. The main course of grilled lamb for myself and chicken for my friend was generous, we paired this with daal, rice, and buttered naan. We were so full after but couldn't resist the pudding of mango cheesecake..very light and creamy. All in all one of the best Indian food I've ever tasted. Normally don't write bad reviews but this has to be done. The chef needs food safety hygiene course immediately! I could pass when he took sign out and touched his hair etc still wearing gloves on which he prepared food with. But when I saw him chopping raw chicken and taking it away on chopping board -come back and put vegetable green board on same spot where was raw chicken juices without wiping disinfecting it made made me sick. He didn't wash his hands and picked cucumber and start chopping it! 🤢 I did tell the waitress but when she come back she said he done right chopping boards and they were busy. Sorry you had 4 tables max there and no matter how busy you are you follow health and safety rules!!!! We won't be back and definitely won't recommend...

The service here was brilliant, the look and feel of the restaurant was fresh and inviting.

The food was a good quality, wish there was some more detail on the menu about what the dishes were. What we picked ended up being perfect but the waiting staff were very busy and we didnt really want them to explain exactly what everything was.

Only two things prevented it from being a 5 star review - the lack of information on the menu and that gratuity was added automatically to the bill. I would have left a tip, I always do when there is service as fantastic as your staff demonstrated last night. I just prefer to pick how much and how I tip rather than it being added...
