Dark during the day, but a nice environment after dark. Frequented by locals, people stopping for a beer after work on the way home and people staying at the campsite across the road. The outside space is a bit grim with a few benches next to a busy road and the large, featureless pub carpark. The selection of beers is a bit limited, no real session bitter, but Laine and Doombar are acceptable alternatives. We returned in the evening for dinner and had classic burgers which were very good. Joshua who served us was very good and the young people behind the bar were also friendly. We reserved a table for dinner which was a good move as they obviously manage the work load in the kitchen. We arrived a little early, but were not given our menus until our reservation time which makes a lot of sense. The buyers came with home made coleslaw and nice fries, the burgers were served medium rare which meant they weren't dried out or chewy. A soft close door mechanism on the front door to the pub would improve things as the constant slamming of the door is wearing. We will return to eat if we're in the area.

First time with new owners, always used this place when staying at Black Horse Farm Caravan Site. Met family there for a Birthday Meal. 12 adults 1 child and 2 dogs. Very warm welcome, menu although sparce , good selection of meals and very well priced. Young lady serving had an American accent and was excellent at her job. Made us feel at home and explain everything on menu and continued to check on us through out evening. We all chipped in with generous tip as we believed the staff went over and above with service. Will always use this Pub when in that area. 5 stars. Plenty of off road parking and very roomy inside.

We absolutely love The Black Horse, it’s home from home! Michele is the most friendly, lovely landlady & The staff are all lovely too. We got married on 7th May and had a meal after. Michelle made it look absolutely beautiful, and went the extra mile, with a bottle of Champagne , sprinkles, beautifully decorated cakes and decorations. Not only this, I am gluten free and there is such a wonderful selection on the menu

Booked a table to eat at 8 pm before an overnight stay at the campsite opposite. Waited an hour for a starter to share, with the lovely lad who served us apologising constantly - delay due to the starter being new to the menu and the chef having trouble with the air fryer! The mains arrived after another long wait and mine was a completely different meal to what I’d ordered. We pointed this out but as it was so late, we’d been waiting so long and were starving by this point, we didn’t make a fuss and I said I would eat it anyway. It was a lovely seafood tagliatelle and tasted delicious. The waiter checked on the order he’d taken from me, had written down the correct order and said it was the chefs error. He spoke to the owner (who had by this time gone to bed!) to ask for a reduction on the bill but was told it was the chefs fault not theirs so no discount would be given. By this time it was 10 pm, I’d eaten what I wanted of the meal and just wanted to leave. I told him I’d only pay for the cost of the meal I’d ordered and we paid and left. No free drink was offered in compensation for our horrendous wait or the food error, which would have been appreciated, and we left with a very bad impression of the place. I would say though that the staff were lovely and I felt so sorry that they were left to explain the error rather than owner or chef. It’s telling though that the campsite give a list of recommended local eateries and this place isn’t on it despite being literally 2...

As a local I thought we would call in to see if it had really changed that much. As we had been there in the past and the food was totally tasteless. And the clientele not very nice. So called in on Saturday lunchtime and was greeted by a lovely guy called Christian. He was very chatty and was a local himself. Had a lovely glass of wine and the husband had dark fruit cider that was via the pump. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. So booked in to try the food the next day.(Sunday) I was told it was amazing and I was not let down. The whole place is so warm and friendly and the staff amazing. We had the white bait to start. Delicious and crisp with plenty of sauce and side salad. We then had the roast. Lamb and pork. The meats were served in a giant Yorkshire pudding. Along with crisp and crunchy roast potatoes. Roast parsnips. Cauliflower cheese. Swede and gravy. As well as a bowl of other veg and two separate gravy boats should you want more. The quality and taste of the food was fantastic. I was hoping to fit in the apple pie and custard. But unfortunately I was too full. I really hope that more people use this pub. (Trust me I know what it used to be like which is why we stopped using it). Please please give it a go and experience the place for yourself. You won’t be dissapointed. Wishing everyone involved the very best for the future. I really hope it takes off for all...

Been all around the area trying, unsuccessfully, to get a decent Sunday roast. It's a tough thing to deliver when you're cooking for more than one family. Not had a huge success at any of the other places so thought we'd try this place. First time in years that I've felt like I was in a traditional local, with a lovely mix of people, dogs, background chatter and the wonderful smell of a log fire ( already planning to do a full Sunday and grab a couple of hours in front of the fire before lunch). It brought back memories of old fashioned country pubs from my childhood (I'm 52, so it's been a while). Roast was excellent, with homemade Yorkshire puds, decent veg (not mushy) and a lovely Cauliflower Cheese to boot. Finished off with a lovely Bailey's chocolate tart. Also had a pint of Doombar, and you can taste that they clearly take care of their pipes. All in all, very good value, matched only by the warmth of the staff. Can't praise Nicky enough as she has such a lovely way about her, and was simply the final piece of the puzzle that so many pubs and restaurants aspire to, yet so rarely achieve. We will be back. UPDATE we have been back a number of times. Still delivers a great roast in a nice atmosphere. Staff are...
