The Green — Restaurant in Gateshead

Visit for Sunday lunch 3pm ish booked in the restaurant was a few minutes late due to traffic through the Tyne tunnel. Waited 6 minutes to be seated x 2of us.( 3 members of staff passed us still saying nothing to us.). Bad start . Finally got seated in the corner table number 23. Took a while to order ( a party of 12which was 5 children in the group but onto ice creams etc). Ordered 22 minutes later after asking staff to take our order. A man Came across 1 starter 2 drinks 2 main courses without black pudding on the pork Sunday dinner and daughter asked for a breast of chicken on her Sunday roast which she got!. My dinner came 28 minutes after the starter.

It came with turned out to be the manager of the green. Guess what it came with black pudding and asked to take it off which he did with his bare hands !!!. I was so shocked I couldn't, get my words out . Finally I did and said that was so rude and bad to do that with his hands touching my carrots and cracking as he removed the black pudding!. He replied as he seen the shock on face my plate I will replate only your meal to my reply no!. Cold hard vegetables, soft pork cracking, mash potato under the pile of green cabbage etc. Ask where the roast pototo was to his reply Sold out none left !!!. Your joking and said takes 2 hours to cook potatoes . Offered more veg or piggy in the blankets asked for PIGS in blankets came out several minutes later on a small greasy side plate and 6 of them . Cold uncooked sausages and raw bacon wrapped around them ( didn't.t touch them as didn,t want to be I'll for Xmas week). No body came to asked if the food was ok .( Half way through it) Ate meat and Yorkshire pudding and some green vegetables and left the rest as did my daughter. Asked for the bill and came to the table. We got up and walked over to the bar to pay and only happy to pay for 2 drinks ,1 starter and my daughter's chicken dinner.and not for my pork dinner . By this time 1 young lady chief and 1 man young chief came out of the kitchen the male at the end of the bar laying across it and lady standing next to the coffee machine touching and playing with her hair. 2 server's young girls standing around them Listering to what I was saying .

Told manager he needed a recap on customer service and a refresher health and hygiene course. He laughed in my face as did the other staff. Willing to pay to his reply I can,t possible ask you to pay anything . Asked for head office numbers and he wrote his name on my receipt and out of roast pototo,s. Time starter was ordered 3.22pm. And 20 minutes later our Sunday roast came out at 3.50pm. Walked away and could hear him talking about me to the 2 chiefs ( why couldn't,t they try to cook more roast potatoes as Sunday lunches served till 6pm on a Sunday)( standing in the bar area doing nothing) and 2 server's . I will never return again. Shocking service very slow and last interest in customer service.( No please or thank you no smile happy faces either ) Phoned head office today Monday to pass on my comments not expecting a reply from the greens area...

So 12 of us visited here it was booked around 12pm the day of visit which was a Saturday night, which was fortunate as the place we originally wanted didn’t take bookings.

When we sat down we were never told about the stock issues they had that night until we were about to order.

We had one person on our table change their dish 3 times! Beef Brisket to Ribeye. So now we had 3 Ribeyes ordered then to be told there’s only 1 left then to be told there actually none on 2 separate occasions. So changed to 2 Rumps and a Fishcakes.

Had a buttermilk chicken burger ordered but after the burger was ordered told that they didn’t have that either.

To then be told that the fishcakes are not salmon but actually cod! We only found this out because when he asked for the ‘Salmon Fishcakes’ he was told they not salmon but cod! Someone else on our table wasn’t told this when this was originally ordered, she not a fan of Cod so that was changed to Gammon!

So we ordered around 19:40 and we didn’t get our food till 20:55 we were on the brink of walking out we let the staff know that especially knowing that probably some of our food was sitting on pass considering the time we ordered.

When food arrived the Fishcakes looked like someone popped to local Asda and brought just essential Fishcakes!

The Rumps that were ordered were supposed to be Medium-rare but one came well done and the other medium-well

Gammon comes with an egg but even that came out well done as if it sitting under heat lamps

Chips (Correction we were told they didn’t have anymore chips but had fries) were Luke warm at best

Some members of table had mushrooms as part of their dish they were partially cooked at best

We had a fish and chips order we made it very clear that didn’t want any garnish, Mushy peas, lemon or tartare sauce on the plate at all. Consistent with everything else going wrong tonight, they managed to bring the meal out with everything we asked them not to put on the plate.

We were offered to get steaks taken back but after such a wait for our food we refused.

The manager told us that it’s been busy all day and that it’s something not in her control? The manager had to call her boss (assuming it was the general manager) about experience this night. He decided that he wasn’t going to charge us for the food but going to call us about this service this night.

Absolutely shocked at how bad this was! Considering the standard that other SJF pubs provide from Service and Food!

Update: this review was written the night of our visit, I’ve withheld posting this review as I’m waiting for a phone from the manager but it’s been two days since we visited and they...

We went for for the fish and chip 2 for £24 pound Friday night deal along with our 2 children both 6 and 7 years old. We asked for the fish and chips for myself and my wife and then for our children the kids portion fish and chips also. We were told that this would be a small portion. When our adult portion came out it was very small, overdone, few chips and no lemon. The children’s came and was also overdone and smaller than ours (as expected at that time as was a child’s portion). We had a really busy day, normally don’t complain, chalked it down to a bad night at the office for the green and proceeded to finish it. Half way through we noticed the neighbours table fish and chips arrived and was noticeably much bigger, more chips, better cooked and dressed with lemon. When the waitress came with the bill we asked why was ours so different and were informed ours was the ‘offer’ fish and chips so was smaller. When we explained we were not informed that there was another option the waitress seemed dismissive and of little care. The children’s ‘small’ fish and chips was charged at £27 for both portions with which we queried as now the kids meals cost more than the adults! At this point we where told by our now condescending, unhelpful waitress that the small fish and chips where not in the offer and if we wanted kids fish and chips we would should of asked for fish goujons and chips.. again we explained we where not informed of this when ordering from the original waitress. Eventually, and what was reluctantly, they agreed to reduce the kids meals to a kids meal price. Needless to say, we now find out that there are 4 fish and chip options of varying sizes and costs, none of which are appropriately explained prior, dubious quality and served with a ‘it should be obvious we have 4 different fish and chip options’ attitude! What’s prompted this Google review is that we wrote in our issue on the website contact form that promised a 24h response 5 days ago and they haven’t even responded to that (I am not surprised) Can I be bothered to go to this place again that has over complicated, over charged, under performed for what I can get from my local chippy for for better and cheaper in the...
