We booked in advance as a big party. On arrival, the tables werenât ready despite the pub being near enough empty. Tables finally put together for us but weâre not cleaned. Poor first impression that only got worse from there. We were informed that âas advertisedâ only sunday roasts could be accommodated however had ran out of one of the meats already as they admitted they had forgotten to start cooking it. We were a party of 17, with 3 small children. We were given childrenâs menus however when we came to order we were told children could also only have a roast dinner too. We asked if there was any way of them making a quick chicken nuggets and chips for the children and they said âthat would mean turning on the air fryer so noâ After a disappointing start already and 4 people out of our party unable to find something they liked due to lack of meat options on the roast and zero alternative options for children, we were met with unaccommodating staff who didnât know answers to questions and had poor attitude. The host of our party (who was footing the entire bill for 17 people) made a joke when ordering his food saying âiâll have a beef roast if you can manage itâ The server got her back up and pulled him up for âhaving an attitudeâ and told him not to speak to her like that. After an already sour start, this was less than desirable. The server made a point of serving the host of our party last I can only assume as âpunishment for his attitudeâ, deliberately serving those next to him and then going down to the other end of the table. When she served him last she threw his food down and said âsee, i managed itâ this was the straw in the camels back. She was rude, unaccommodating and didnât know the answer to any question despite being the manager. This caused the host of our party and his wife to leave the establishment there and then, ruining what was meant to be our final family meal of the weekend. Sour from start to finish with food comparable to a microwave meal from Aldi. Veggies and accompaniments were brought out a good while after bringing out all of the main meals meaning our food was either cold for those who chose to wait, or gone for those who decided to just start eating. Where our servers social skills lacked, her organisation skills were not much better, only half of the cutlery was put out on our dirty table meaning we had to go to other tables to get our own. A pub ran by a bunch of rabid squirrels would make for a more pleasant experience than this dive. Definitely visit if you hate your family and want a...
Read moreHaving booked a holiday house in wistow for a large family get together we visited the Black Swan on Friday afternoon for drinks in the beer garden, was told there was no captain morgans or smirnoff vodka, when we asked why we was told in a very abrupt manner, 'because we've been busy'! We also booked the Black Swan for the Sunday for 17 people, on arriving and given the menus showing only sunday roasts and nothing else, we asked if they had other options, we were told 'NO' there was 1 adult and 1 child that did not eat Sunday lunch so we asked if they could possibly do chicken nuggets or something similar to accommodate them, we were told very bluntly NO this was not possible as they only provide the Sunday lunch and it would mean putting the air fryer on for 20 minutes, her attitude was very uncaring and very abrupt! Due to this my husband gave a quip that he would have the beef 'if they could manage it', wrong we know! But to which the waitress serving us who we later learned was the manageress answered 'do not have that attitude with me!' we almost got up to walk out but stayed because we did not want to spoil the day for our family. We were then served our meals of meat and Yorkshire pudding, but my husband was not served his until the very last minute even after they brought the veg out! the manageress then almost threw my husbands plate down in front of him and said 'there you go we did manage it' I then remarked that she should not be speaking to customers this way and she just said 'whatever' myself and my husband then got up and left! As a business and especially as the management her attitude was very unprofessional and in my opinion was handled in a very childish manner! If you cannot deal with customers in a polite and professional manner then you are clearly in...
Read moreTerrible experience. We were in Wistow for a family weekend. 17 of us. We booked Sunday roast before we arrived. A few of us popped in for a drink on Friday afternoon, only to be told they had no Morgan spice (fair enough) then also they had no Smirnoff left either. Which seemed to amuse the manageress for some reason. Myself personally, I would have sent member of staff out to nearest shop and to try and accommodate customers. But it was no biggie, just a strange attitude. Then we all arrived for Sunday roast. Out of 17 of us we had one adult and one child that couldn't eat Sunday roast. So then told basically that it was a take it or leave option. Not trying to accommodate again. I do get that it was strictly a Sunday roast menu, but we didn't realise until we got there because we were strange to the area, i personally made a stupid comment, which I hold my hand up for. But was then treated in the most childish manner of any manageress I have ever come across. Deliberately leaving me to last then throwing my dinner in front of me with a childish quip and totally wrong attitude. Myself and my wife immediately left without paying because of the disgusting attitude. Fair enough. Food wise......we asked the rest of the family, who should have walked out aswel, for their honest opinions. The majority said it was just ok and not worth the money. 3 stars at most. Put a dampener on our family weekend, but hey there us always alcohol.......just not there....
