We arrived late in the afternoon, having been cycling all day, so were pretty tired. When trying to check in there were two young members of staff who weren’t interested in seeing to us, completely ignored us, and instead were just joking around with each other. It was very off-putting and gave a very poor first impression. The one saving grace was the Manageress, who had been seconded from another property in the group. She was helpful and friendly, but had to explain that everything was new to her because it wasn’t her usual place of work. We had been told that the property had recently been refurbished, and the public areas looked very nice. Unfortunately that didn’t extend to the bedrooms, which need the same refurb. We had booked a dinner, bed and breakfast deal, but the allowance for the dinner component is limited to a low price, so we ended up paying more because our food option exceeded the allowance, even though we were not extravagant with our choices. And, although the dinner was advertised as being capped at £30 per head, we were charged for anything above £25 each. I ordered a glass of wine to have with my main course, but by the time the food was delivered, over an hour after ordering it, the wine had all gone, so I suggested that they could offer me another glass as a goodwill gesture, for keeping us waiting so long. The rather flimsy excuse for the long wait was that “it’s so hot today.” There was no apology. When I checked out in the morning the extra glass of wine was on the bill, which was already too high because I had been overcharged for the food. I said nothing and paid it. Maybe the Manager would have knocked it off the bill if I had complained, but I didn’t ask. So, the service was disappointing, but the dinner was good, as was the breakfast. Our room was quiet and had a nice view to the rear, away from...

Let down maintenance wise.||JW Lees, you need to actually put in place a maintenance system that works.||Our bathroom, room 8 was a disgrace. Where do I start? The bath had a shower curtain that had let water escape at the head of the bath and over time had rotted the wooden bath panel, soaked under the tiled floor and as it dried out cracked the tiles. It takes a long time for wood to rot so it looks like maintenance has been nonexistent for long time.I have since noted complaints about bathrooms going back to 2021.||The basin taps had a pop up waste; I say had as it was not there, It had an old plug and chain that didn’t seal as the O ring was missing from that cheap and nasty bodged repair. Washing was a speed event before the basin emptied. Also there was clear glass in the window in front of the basin, yes it was a lovely view (out that is) but modesty glass in the bottom pane should surely have been fitted?||The toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall pointing down as if water divining the wet floor and totally useless. Also what finally showed whoever was “maintenance” didn’t understand or didn’t care was the waste pipe from the basin being unsupported with a flex connection lower than the outlet.||The room was ok, although a little tired, the view was its saving grace. ||So JW Lees you get 1 star.||The inn is a different story 4star I can’t fault the place, the food or the staff. Everyone was pleasant, accommodating and hardworking, If only JW Lees put the same effort as the staff into this place it would excel.||Do I expect you to respond to my review, yes, do I expect a different response than the two finger V. ||“Thank you for leaving us a review about your recent visit. We apologise for your recent stay, your comments will be discussed with our team.”.|| No, but...

We have visited the Groes inn pub and restaurant on 4 recent visits over the past few weeks in August 2024, lots of little rooms with dinning tables in this very old quirky pub, we were always greeted and seated within a minute of walking in, we found all the staff to be friendly and helpful but on couple of times the service was not as attentive as other visits, all the food we have tried so far has been well presented and enjoyed though we do note the same meals ordered on different days can vary a little and lack consistency, though we still enjoyed the food, they offer a very good value lunchtime special and highly recommended the prawn cocktail and the black pudding starters and the sea bass or chicken in a very tasty mushroom sauce mains on that menu.👌 Our latest visit was to try the Saturday 20%off grills😍 and we enjoyed a great old school pub classic Gammon and chips which included both a perfectly cooked fried egg and pineapple rings, onion rings and some tasty tomatoes, nice crispy chunky chips and a lovely well cooked gammon steak which was a blast from the past and our favourite meal so far at the Groes in😋👌and again would highly recommend for all you old school gammon lovers👍 O and not forgetting the puds some come with ice cream which is from the Cheshire farm company and is probably one of the best ice cream makers in the UK > definitely needs to be tried 🍦🍧🍨👌😋We plan to visit again soon to try the traditional pies and a Sunday lunch along with more of the main meals plus we will having more of the Saturday grill day visits for the gammon 🍻 also they have a very nice large outside beer garden at the rear of the building and some spectacular views or the Conwy valley, it's also a very nice drive there and they have 2 free car parks for customers.

Nothing in life is perfect but it is fair to say that The Groes Inn does most things perfectly. We stayed in room 3, this is a ground floor mountain view room with its own terrace area complete with table and 2 chairs. The bed was HUGE and as we were to find out, extremely comfortable. Plenty of supplies to make hot drinks along with bottles of still/sparkling water. Good sized bathroom with full bath and overhead shower. We stayed for 2 nights and the room was really well serviced by the house keepers and no skimping on the tea/coffee and milk. The breakfast was brill with plenty of choice (both full cooked and continental) Plenty of carparking including a couple of reserved slots for any EV users. Now that I have mentioned the good points lets move on to the (dramatic pause) even better points! The staff were totally amazing from the moment we entered to the time we left. Always polite of course but much more. They were nice with it. Nothing robotic or false just really nice. We noted the interaction with other customers and it was always the same. Nothing was too much trouble. This pub/hotel/restaurant is pet friendly, not like some that are pet tolerant but here they are totally friendly towards dogs. We took our 2 Scotties with us and they clearly enjoyed their stay as much as we did. So much fuss and attention with plenty of treats from the staff. Good sized seating areas in the restaurant are set aside for pet owners and they are welcomed at all times. One last point, this location is ideal for visiting Conwy, Llandudno and parts of Snowdonia. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will definitely return in the non to distant future.

The Groes hotel is made up of two lovely buildings that sit Parallel to the main road that lead into Conwy. We had an upstairs room at the back with a small balcony that had breathtaking views over the countryside. The bedroom was a good size with a bathroom and a TV,now the TV is important because they don't have one in the bar which wouldn't bother us normally unless there's a very important football match on.(say no more). The main Hotel is made up of numerous really cosy rooms with lovely seating throughout. The dining room is the same with a conservatory alongside. The menu is very traditional, service is good and it all went down very well.We did move to the bar after dinner and found some comfortable seats where we finished the night off.The big breakfast next morning was good,a bit of a wait but there was no hurry although I'm still waiting for my brown sauce. You could imagine being here at the hotel on a cold night with a roaring fire,it's that cosey.Maybe we will. This is an excellent place to stay and it's a nice drive into Conwy
