Every time I play here at whatever time of year I am impressed by the condition and the overall state of the grounds and different areas around the course. It's a very neat and tidy golf course with nicely edged paths and well maintained areas around trees etc. There's a lot of detail to the way it's maintained. The course is always enjoyable to play and there's some nice views across the surrounding fields to keep your eye interested around the course. There's good variety in most of the holes but one or two on the back 9 feel a little samey. Brutal 18th hole if it's into the usual wind you get on it and the 17th is a pretty tricky par 3 also. Great and tough finishing holes. It doesn't feel quite as old as it actually is. It's quite open and there's not a whole lot of trees about or anything to give it that aged character that some other courses of this age have. However as a golfing experience I can't knock it. All the playing surfaces are superb and the way they mow their tees and maintain their greens and green surrounds is a class act. Some really nice new bunkering taking shape at the moment and the condition of the fairways and the playing areas in these December conditions is extremely impressive. It's getting quite spendy to play here but I definitely recommend...
Read moreHigh Post golf club. so starting with the positive, that is I was fully able to park my Bentley Continental in front of the clubhouse. Speaking of club house the ale tasted like it was scraped from the Weatherspoons barrel! The course was in a poor condition and this only aggravated my weak knee, with the fairway trimmed to a condition unfit for a player with my handicap. So many Rabbit holes in the rough caused me to lose my ball on 3 holes, as a veteran I saw less mortar explosion holes in the Korean War. Continuing the theatre of war was the constant noise of a tornado bomber wizzing around, which caused great distraction to me and my playing partner Keith. Oh those greens! Like putting through a windmill. I fear the next ten years will make or break this club, as houses are being built near Amesbury this land may suit 50-60 semi-detached dwellings. All in all hard times for the small high post club, they will always be living in the shadow of the hugely popular Salisbury and South Wilts golf club by a...

The course was in excellent condition, not the longest but a good challenge. Excellent clubhouse and changing facilities, with good practice and putting areas.
The welcome was friendly and the food (bacon roll, coffee and cold meat salad with dessert) were great too - making the £40 entry fee great value.
Greens were receptive and very smooth - running to a sensible pace in my view.
The club worked hard to ensure water was available, including travelling marshalls who had cold bottles to hand out. Thanks guys, you were fantastic.
Definitely one I'd like to make a...
