Mee Kee — Restaurant in Great Britain

WORST CHINESE I HAVE EVER TASTED...!!!! (and that was only the starter... refused to even touch the main course!)

Where do I start... firstly, I don't normally write reviews so, as you can imagine the meal had to be pretty dire for me to start now!!!

I purchased my chinese meal from Mee Kee in Leslie this evening and was looking forward to tucking into my BBQ spare ribs and crispy duck after reading the reviews. When I had my first bite of my spare ribs I was disappointed to find that the BBQ sauce which you find normally goes along with BBQ spare ribs was missing only to be replaced with what I could say was a... gravy (and that's putting it politely!).

I then opened up the container to see that the crispy duck was not what you would normally find in any other chinese restaurant, instead of the meat being shredded it was cut into strips and the skin was fatty not crispy in the slightest... not a good start! opened up the salad, mega huge chunks of onion (not spring onion) and cucumber... not the dainty batons you normally get with your crispy duck so not quite sure how I was meant to get this onto the small undercooked pancake then onto the sauce... Hoisin Sauce once again nothing like your normal sauce you get to enjoy with your aromatic crispy duck meal.

I was majorly hacked off that I had forked out £17 for a load of crap... to be honest, I wouldn't have fed this to my dogs.... the quality of the meal was soooooo bad that I ended up driving back to the restaurant to take it back and get a refund (which was refused!).

Long story cut short... after meeting and raising my complaint with the chef (I say that in the loosest terms... I have to say, I've never met someone as unkept who worked in a kitchen as he was, he looked like - no disrespect intended to homeless people but as a down and out!) and after 45mins of being told, this is the way they cook it and that they hadn't had any complaints so far about their food so basically like it or lump it... it kinda all makes sense now why they had an empty restaurant!!!

If you have a cast iron stomach and have money to throw away then this is the place for you... if like me you are trying to get a nice chinese meal to enjoy on a Saturday evening then AVOID this sham of a restaurant at ALL costs!

I ordered a take out so haven't sat in the restaurant yet. However Mee Kee's indoor appearance is absolutely beautiful with Chinese decorations and nicely made tables. The food tastes wonderful with flavours that aren't overpowering. The chicken is succulent and the rice is nicely cooked. The vegetable spring rolls are absolutely amazing! It's a family business with really nice people. I'd recommend giving this restaurant a try...

On entering it smells musty. Interior very tired and dull. Doesn't accept credit cards. VAT number on receipts crossed out. Service is quick but food and presentation is woeful. The most dismal dining experience I've ever had. Between 7pm and 7:45 nobody entered, nobody phoned-in to make a take-out order, nobody looked in the window.
