We went to Homewood Park Olio restaurant for a Sunday lunch to celebrate my parents anniversary. We ordered 3 roast dinners, 2 beef sirloin and 1 pork loin with extra cauliflower cheeses. When the food arrived, we noticed it wasn’t warm at all, the side of cauliflower cheeses was lukewarm. We had to order extra gravy as there wasn’t much on our plates. Even the gravy wasn’t warm. So my dad went up to complain about the temperature of the food, and the lady turnt round and said “would you like a refund” and my dad replied “no, I’ve come out for lunch and would like to eat please” as we wanted to enjoy a nice Sunday roast dinner and to leave full. Another lady (dressed in a blue floral dress with dark hair) came and took our plates away, there was no apology with this, she came across very unprofessional as she sighed multiple times and made us feel uncomfortable for wanting warm food and the fact we are paying high prices, we expected good service. She even questioned “do you want new cauliflower cheeses” in a very abrupt manor. When the same waitress came out with our new roasts, she placed them down and said “don’t touch the plates as they are boiling hot” and she raised her voice in a manor to get everyone’s attention and carried on shaking her hands saying “Jesus Christ they were boiling plates” almost to get a dig out of us as we wanted warm food. This left us feeling uncomfortable again as people were looking round at us like we were the problem. Other than this, our 2nd lot of roasts were tasty and the gentleman who cleared our table was very apologetic about our food and was very professional about the situation. We have been here before for my birthday dinner and you could not fault the food at all, we were very excited to come back and unfortunately we left very...
Read moreUnfortunately our afternoon tea was a bit of a disappointment as they didn't seem set up for vegetarians. We asked if there were any alternatives to the one vegetarian savoury option containing goats cheese, which awkwardly neither of us eat, and were served some roast vegetables on some bread (it felt a bit 'chucked together' from left overs).
The three cake options consisted of a puree in a small biscuit cup with a meringue, a very dry brownie (impossible to eat without taking a drink after each mouthful) and a slice of carrot cake that had such a stale rubbery texture I couldn't eat it. The scones, thankfully were excellent!
When asking for a tea refill the waitress said she had to ask if that was OK as part of our voucher, which felt a bit odd.
The best afternoon teas we've had have been where the chefs have made special pastries and moreish delicacies freshly in the morning, with consideration to their...

Delicious afternoon tea. The savoury bites were amazing and my husband really enjoyed the falafel even though he’s usually not a fan.
I was so full I couldn’t breathe afterwards but I refused to waste anything because the food was so good!
Home made scones too which gets top marks from me! This is a must when it comes to afternoon tea.
The tea was also brewed perfectly. I know it doesn’t seem like you could get this wrong but you’d be surprised how many places can’t get this right, so I’m very impressed.
The venue is beautiful and picturesque. The staff are attentive and friendly and the vibe is relaxed and luxurious without feeling pretentious. I only wish I had a babysitter so I could have stayed...
