Well unfortunately it has gotten to the point where a review is having to be written! This is the first time I have ever reviewed a restaurant but I found my experiences at this place so poor that I've had to share! Generally the food is very good and to a high standard - tasty, very good portion size, lots of choice - lovely desserts, (to be honest it was the food only that kept us going back) but I am afraid I have to echo the sentiments of other reviewers when I say how rude and unfriendly staff are. I can't knock the young waitresses - but as for the older waitresses - what is wrong with you guys?? Try and crack a smile once in a while for goodness sake. Management if you're reading this - A course in customer services is highly recommended! This isn't just something me and my hubby have noticed recently either - on every trip over the past 4 years of living in Haswell we have never been made to feel welcome - more of a burden to be honest! Anyway, our experience tonight has definitely put the nail in the coffin - we will not be eating here again. First off we were looked at miserably when we walked in, were took to a table with not a word spoken to us until the same waitress came to take our order (all the while being made to feel like we were a nuisance as we were asking about what came with the food, and doing the general thinking when ordering food) The meals arrived my husbands food seemed fine - he enjoyed - but mine however was a different story. I ordered mince and dumplings - I'd had a good few mouth fulls when I realised traces of pink mince meat throughout (I mean bright bloody pink) I asked one of the older waitresses about this and she said "well just put the pink bits in the bowl" (as in the bowl the mince came in) I said I was concerned about eating it - she then told me they boil the mince for hours so it's ok. No replacement was offered & no apologies at all from either of the older waitresses (just a get on and eat it kind of attitude)! There was a lovely young girl waitressing though - who put the other two to shame - she took our plates away and apologised.... they need to take a leaf out of this girls book. We left feeling really dissapointed. Other poor experiences include watery pepsi, on another occasion we called prior to visiting to ask if we could call in to take food home - waitress said this was fine, then when we got there we were told we had to bring our own plates to take the food away (?) we ended up going to another local pub nearby - where staff were so much more friendly and accommodating! And yes, the blonde lady with the longer hair - the rudest of the lot. She has been there years - how on earth, I don't know.

So ..... it's bye...

Went in here for a Sunday roast yesterday I've I've wanted to try it for a while.. Well where to start. Feom the moment we walked in a felt uncomfortable, we were placed on a table right near the front door, I struggle with an eating disorder so I dont like people that close to me when I'm eating.. (I understand people will be walking to get past you) but it was too close and too much for me. The light above us was flashing and my partner is epileptic so we asked if we could move as neither of us were comfortable sitting there we got a very rude abrupt flat out no. The tables were so close together you felt like other guests were sitting on top of you. When the food actually came out I can honestly say it's one of the worst meals I've ever had. You got plenty of meat but that would be great if it actually was edible. The mash had instant mash mixed into it and the veg came in a little split bowl with carrots on one side and cabbage in the other.. I was expecting a bowl each only to find that was to share between two of us the Yorkshire pudding was burned and very hard, tasted as if it had been cooked a week before frozen then heated in a microwave. And came out very fast withing five mins of ordering. The staff behind us where you wait to be seated were staring at us the whole time we were eating. If you value good food avoid this place like the plague. I got the impression that if your not a local In there then your...

Where do I start. The older staff are really unpleasant and just look like they don't want to be there. The cutlery at our table was unclean, looking as though they hadn't been washed at all. Next, we ordered nachos and "homemade pate" for a starter. The nachos were literally just a small bag of cool original Doritos and the pate came with what looked like half a slice of toast, quartered. Next we ordered a 20oz mixed grill which was in fact around 10oz, when we complained the manager came over to our table and stood over us, trying to intimidate us into revoking our complaint, from this point we were made to feel uncomfortable in the restaurant with the boss hovering around. There was a bowl of sauces at our table in which they had all been left in the sun, some of them were months out of date, and the ones in date still looked off and tasted even worse, once we complained about this they took the out of date packaging an ran out the back with it. Would not recommend this place to anyone, used to be nice but has gone downhill fast. Manager really needs to go to the Half Moon at Easington to experience some real food...

A SIMPLE BUT LOVELY RESTAURANT Well what a nice surprise this visit was, for myself and my husband. After many friends and family contacting me to come and try this lovely little restaurant we were both very pleasantly surprised by the cosiness and friendly atmosphere by all the staff and the FOOD was amazing. It was reasonably priced and so well presented and very filling, tasty, homemade and with plenty of choice for everyone. We had Soup of the Day which was lovely and hot, hubby had the Steak and Ale pie, which I had a taste of and it was delicious, the meat just melted in your mouth and the puff pastry top was so light, I had the Chilli Con Carne with Tortillas and sour cream, just beautiful and we were so full we shared a Strawberry and Raspberry Eton Mess my favourite dessert and the best I have ever tried. So if you are looking to try really good homecooked food in a small and quaint restaurant then look no further than here, we will be coming back and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Thank You.

Myself and husband live local to this pub so decided to have a Sunday lunch out as a treat. Pulled into the car park, plenty of spaces so that was a bonus straight away. Went into the restaurant, we were greeted by a lovely polite lady, was asked if we had booked a table?, explained we hadn't , but that wasn't a problem as we were seated immediately. We struggled to decide what we wanted to eat, but husband decided on the 3 meat Sunday roast, I opted for the steak pudding, it was advertised with mash ,but they were more than happy to change it for home made chips for me. I have to say the portions are more than generous, hubby's Yorkshire puddings was ginarmous!!. The food was served piping hot, lovely tender meat and vegetables had a tiny bite to them. Could not fault it. Throughout the meal we got asked if everything was ok, very attentive polite staff. All in all a superb meal at a very reasonable price. I would not hesitate to recommend.
