We had heard a lot of good things about The Boat Inn and with River Dee flowing just in front, it did leave a great first impression. We wanted to have a good Scottish breakfast and this looked just the right place. The décor with lot of stag heads, hunting and trout fishing gear was quite traditional and much to our liking. We ordered smoked salmon, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, bread and coffee. The service was too slow. Once we complained of slow service we were informed that those staying in the hotel will be served first and walk in customers like us will be served later. Well..... this might be true actually but in a hotel of this standing, the staff could have been more articulate and polite. Breakfast was good but served quite late and in haste. I particularly liked the smoked salmon and large sized mushrooms. We wanted to have our coffee outdoors and it took them ages to serve us in the courtyard. A the end, it costed us 14 GBP per head which is not at all cheap...

We booked ahead of time as we heard it was a popular spot and wanted to make sure we could get a Sunday Roast. Parking wasn't an issue for us in the back car park and staff were pleasant enough. Ordered drinks and the special which was Pork with veg and onion gravy jus. (See photo). The reason I gave it 3 stars was due to the quality of the meal. Roast potato's were dry and few, the pork was plenty but very dry and hard to eat. The other reason for the 3 star review was due to the staff member only coming over at the end of our meal to ask us if everything was ok! My reply was "it was OK" and I explained about the dry meat and potatoes. The waitress just said "Perfect" then took our plates away and that was it....far from perfect it felt like she wasn't even listening 🤔

We stayed for two nights at the Boat Inn whilst working in the area. The Inn is situated in a beautiful location, close to the river, many walks and local attractions.

Staff at the Boat inn were all lovely and friendly. Our room (15) was situated in the separate annex at the back of the Inn. The room was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and had everything we needed whilst staying there including tea/filter coffee and a hairdryer.

The walls were a little on the thin side, so we tried to be as quiet as we could be when getting up early to start work. The room was small with no desk, so with all our work kit it was a little tricky but was fine for a couple of days. There was parking at the back of the Inn which was very handy.

The breakfast on offer was good, my husband had the full Scottish breakfast on both mornings, and I sampled the potato (tattie) scone with egg, veggie sausage one morning and the porridge with apple butter (extremely filling) the next day. You also have toast, tea or coffee and juices. All presented lovely and cheerily by the staff.

The restaurant at night time gets very busy, so I would advise you to book a table to avoid disappointment or a wait. Good selection of dishes on the menu with several vegetarian/vegan options. We tried the loaded fries, the chickpea burger, the tempeh jerk curry and the steak. Can recommend finishing off the night with a boozy coffee. Good selection of whisky, draft ales, spirits and non alcoholic drinks on offer. The bar is dog friendly and they even had a doggie bar in the bar area at the back of the Inn. The staff were attentive and were very busy getting tables served. Keep an eye open for the train that travels around the top of the restaurant.

All in all a lovely place to stay and eat. Would love to visit again when...

Lovely food. Super helpful staff. Plenty of parking. Yards from the River Dee and nice walks . Treated myself to birthday lunch and it was very good. This pub is dog friendly which is awful for me as I'm extremely allergic to them. There was no space in the restaurant so I agreed to dine in the bar as there were no dogs in the area at the time, although I was warned that a booking by a dog owner had been made. Half way through the meal the waitress asked me if I'd like to move to the restaurant because a table had become free. I gladly accepted as I was sneezing and my eyes were streaming. The restaurant was a dog free zone. Great service remembering to offer me a move. The crab taco was outstanding. Very nice burger too. I had two non-alcoholic cocktails as I was driving. These looked and tasted special and I felt like I was celebrating. Loved the little train which travels round a plate shelf at high level in the restaurant. Would definitely go back here if I'm in...
