Poor quality food, disorganized service and covid system. The restaurant/ bar has set up a rather peculiar covid system, whereby people still order at the bar, albeit with an additional table to extend the distance. This causes a lot of confusion, with guests unable to reach their drinks and unsure about why/whether they must order at the bar. We ordered a jug of water that took 15 minutes to arrive, and then we were accidentally given two. The food took even longer and was served slightly cold. The portion size was not great, especially for the price. Even in overpriced London, similarly priced meals would be larger and better quality. The quality of the food could be best described as similar to a school meal, with lots of frozen batch ingredients clearly reheated. In terms of general covid security, the general lack of organisation led to some mishaps. One guest was directed to a table that had not been cleared. It was said the table had only just been vacated, when in actual fact it had been empty for 20 minutes. General cleaning was also lacking, with other bars and pubs nearer the start of the west highland way taking the pandemic much more seriously. The restaurant benefits from a captive audience and relative monopoly. As such, it does a job, but is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe arrived at The Clansman after our walk on the West Highland Way, to be greeted with a smiley face behind the bar. He took our order of 3x Fish and Chips with myself ordering a BBQ Chicken wings for my starter.
When the food came out to us we had sat outside in the sun to soak up some rays, they brought out everything! My wings came with my main course. I was bemused by this. But by the time I ate my wings my main course was luke warm. I duly ate it though as I was starving after my walk.
I went in and ordered another round of drinks and asked the bar tender about it. He said you didnāt specify that it was a starter. I stated it was in the starter part of the menu. But he wasnāt having it. I should have specified I wanted it as a starter. Bad form guys. I am glad I didnāt order a pudding too as that might have arrived before my main. Need to up your game guys. If itās on a starter menu it is therefore a starter.
But in their favour they do have a dyson airblade...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLooks better in the photos here than it is in real life - thereās only a relatively small area which is the rustic and cosy stone fire area. The rest is an annexe and the area outside could do with some tidying up. Itās looking a bit scruffy and could do with a clean and lick of paint (e.g. thereās a 2015/2016 premier league sticker in the window - time to take it down?).
The food itself was ok but overpriced. The soup was £4.95 for a small (albeit tasty) bowl and a roll - just not amazing enough to justify the price. The fish tasted fresh and was a big portion, and the halloumi fries were lovely.
Finally, I had a grumble about the service - I was called up to the bar and, as I started talking, the barman turned his back on me to shout to someone in the room behind, ignoring me. Itās not...
