Use to be excellent so expectations were high. This was going to be a thank you treat so didn't want to spoil the day. May be still good for evening meals but after today's Sunday lunch, we hesitate to take the risk on another 40 mile round trip to find out. For those with Starters, they were very tasty however if not bread and water, then could do with water on table. Had to wait a long time at the bar for drinks, barman busy dealing with table orders presumably. Beef was not roasted it was rare and a bit too fatty for me so our dog was made happy. If you order a steak you are given choices on how you would like it cooked. It may be a chef's preference for meat to be eaten rare but not everyone likes that these days or having to "complain" or ask for it to be taken back and further cooked. This should not be a surprise to a good restaurant? Good selection of veg although something was gritty in the greens. Such nice gravey, so could have done with a gravey boat for more. Sticky toffee pudding was a little overcooked / been waiting but still enjoyable, served with ice cream on a big plate. Parking a nightmare for everyone in the village presumably with the car park also closed, nearly had to cancel. I try to be constructive as this was such a good place to come and could so easily be again. Bitter was excellent but overall...
Β Β Β Read moreWent to the Dudley Arms today for a belated Valentine's lunch as my husband has been working away on Valentine's day. We chose the Dudley Arms because it used to be one of our favorite restaurants. The price of the lunch was reasonable but my husband ordered the ploughman's lunch which when it came consisted of two fingers of cheese, a very small portion of pate to go on two small dry pieces of bread with no butter. Slivers of celery and ham, a couple of slices of apple and a tiny pot of chutney with two sliced pickled onions completed the dish. No sign of any pie or Scotch egg which you would expect on a traditional ploughman's. My husband said it didn't say what it was supposed to consist of on the menu or he wouldn't have ordered it.The young staff were pleasant plus it was supposed to be a nice lunch for just the two of us so we didn't want to complain. Not the same place we remembered so won't return. More like a National Trust cafe now rather than an old pub with lots of character. We have had lots of family celebrations here in the past but it's now definitely off our list of...
Β Β Β Read moreVery disappointed. I have been here many times (I travel over 20miles to get here and it was always worth it) and it always been amazing but sadly this time it wasn't. The food was terrible quality to the point of most of it couldn't be eaten. The chicken served to my daughter still had pink in the middle and the potatoes were rock hard and dry. Explained to the waiter how disappointed we were and he got the floor manager who decided to tell us that "no one else had any issues" and that was that. I have never been in a restaurant that wants to ignore a valid complaint due to the popular consensus saying otherwise. Such a shame as it was not only a special father's Day meal but also our 1st out since lockdown. I understand bad food can happen but the attitude of the lady in charge that day was not accommodating at all and we were made to feel like we either like it or just leave. No offer of any kind of refund, free meal or anything even though only about 40% of what we paid for could actually be eaten. Such a shame as this place was amazing but sadly the standards have...
