While staying at a nearby campsite to recharge our motorhome, I found myself seriously craving meat. My wife did a quick Google search and came across The Old Inn in Appin. What a discovery! This place knows how to make a steak like no other – truly unbelievable!

We both ordered the 26oz T-bone steaks with chips, sauce, and a bottle of wine, and everything was sheer perfection. The steaks were cooked exactly to our liking, tender, juicy, and bursting with flavour. The chips were golden and crispy, the sauces were rich and indulgent, and the wine paired beautifully with the meal.

The ambience of The Old Inn was charming, with lovely fairy lights strung everywhere that added a warm, inviting glow to the rustic setting. Yes, the seating was a bit hard, but honestly, who cares when you’re served food and service as incredible as this? It only added to the character of the place.

Now, we don’t typically order steaks from anywhere, because my wife was the queen of cooking them at home – always perfect and absolutely stunning. I’d usually find it a waste to order steak out, but not with this place! The Old Inn truly raised the bar, delivering steaks so incredible that even my wife was thoroughly impressed.

My wife, who didn’t have much appetite at the time due to her cancer, managed to finish every bite because it was just that delicious. That’s saying something! Yes, we both ended up with the inevitable meat sweats, but it was absolutely worth it. The meal was indulgent in the best way possible.

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made the whole evening even better. For the quality of food and the excellent service, the prices are more than fair. This was a meal to remember – one of the best steak dinners we’ve ever had – and we would recommend The Old Inn to anyone passing through Appin. Don’t miss this place if you’re a steak lover!

Thank you everyone for making that evening such an enjoyable one and for giving my wife and I a fantastic date night with gorgeous food, because, heart-crushingly, she lost her battle with cancer only a...

Little gem of a place nestled down a sloping road, and from the outside, you'd think it was old and run down so you'd never bother. Wrong! The Old Inn is a is a small intimate ,quaint restaurant in Appin that I now know of.. I'd heard rumours... As you go through the first door, it's dark and a bit shaby but you enter the restaurant and you are greeted with a warm glowing room, fairy lights dawn the ceiling and bottles dripped with candle wax offer a warm cosy glow. The wood burning stove also provides an ambience of heat and light. The mood is friendly and warm, and the dress code is casual. I felt overdressed, but I do like to smarten up for dinner out with friends. We ordered drinks at the bar, which is self is rust and so cool. The lovely young lady came with our drinks and we ordered. 11oz ribeye for me a my friend ordered the same. The menu is a simple no frills chalkboard on the wall with a selection of cuts to choose from with the oz's and price. Other options are available, but steak is the winner here. I've been waiting all day for this, so when it arrived, my mouth was watering. The presentation was brilliant. It matches the rustic barn, simplistic and straight-up. Steak on a wooden slab, fries a little salad garnish, and the BEST peppercorn sauce. The first bite was heaven. Chips lovely and seasoned and the garnish of rocket I could easily had a larger portion. The steak itself was perfection. Cooked very well, and a prized piece of meat.

Dessert was bailey's cheesecake. While I was in a bit of a food coma, I couldn't pass up the cheesecake. So light and fluffy, whipped to perfection it was perfect for ending the meal.

Now, this isn't a cheap pan-fried steak from a chain pub. This was a delicious, worth the price meal. I don't mind paying for good food, and THIS was 100%...

You have to go here, fantastic, steak was to perfection, wife had the chicken and again perfection, sticky toffee pudding is the best I have had anywhere. Setting is second to none, back drop of the beer garden has castle stalker , after spending four days at a 4 / 5 star hotel 6 miles south of Oban it was a 24 mile run north to come for some food, the place itself is nothing more than an old barn, no windows and lighting from big candles, stone floor old wooden tables from 50+ years back along with the seats, so those who want a palace go eat in the hotel I was in, the reason why this is so good is you get what you pay for, fantastic service, nothing was too much, food that in fairness our hotel was charging twice the price for half the quality and quantity. You need to book well in advance it's not a pub you turn up to and grab a table, all tables are reserved. All I can say is it's a fantastic experience and for those who want a good steak and chips, chicken and chips, with traditional pub type desserts, absolute must, and the best thing it's not one of these places that have been ruined by cheffy dishes of nuggets of beef on two new potatoes split with a sprig of rocket and a circle and two dots of brown sauce, this is wooden slabs full with what you choose and beautifully cooked and served, forget your Ramsey endorsed places, go here before clowns like him get their hands on it a mess it up... Well done to the team at the old inn.. A+++ we will return. Thanks for such a wonderful meal and don't change a thing...

This is a rustic local secret... not so secret! If you love amazing beef you'll love the Old Inn. They do serve a few other items but it's heavy on the steak 🥩 and well known as some of the best. Service felt a bit hectic but efficient and staff were really friendly. The small dark dining space was packed. It's Old , the clues in the name...and there's a lot of tables closely packed Inn (it does what it says on the tin 😁). You'll need to book way ahead in Summer as it's hard to get a table, especially at weekends. Don't complain on 'trip' because you'll face the wrath of the owner but Jim's responses do make for an entertaining read! Hopefully he won't be upset with my review here lol. The only challenge was disabled access is a 3/5 for us. It's really very tight and a rough path leads up to a 90 degree turn with inward opening doors & a small step. We were made very welcome though and we do love the place. It's the least pretentious, genuine eatery in the area. 5 star reviews say enough for it to be a great spot for 90% of diners. Two other notes. It's opposite Stalker Castle which is amazing and it doesn't look much from the outside. It's right on a busy road and even the old conservatory at the rear was full of rubbish. It's definitely not pretty but that's not why you're going their to eat.
